RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

McHale,

Do you need to burn only the firmware on a CD or you can include it with other songs?

Also the site you mentioned for the firmware does not seem to work. Also what are the advantages of having this firmware?

One last thing, I have the latest music match software, but there is no option to remove IDV tags, only options to update to these tags. So how do I remove them?

Also Mchale, in one of the other forums, you mentioned that you returned yours to 800.com at their cost and got a new one. Please give me the details as I want to return mine and get the new one. I dont mind paying 20 bucks extra for the new Afreey drive.

Bye and have a nice time

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Guys,

I am having problems playing MP3 songs on my sampo. they are:

1. I have 180 songs, but player keeps on going till 300. obviously jumping and overcounting songs.
2. It played only two songs fully, around 100 songs, it played for two seconds and the rest it just skipped and the number on my player kept going up without any sound.
3. Even though I did not touch my remote, it went from 0 to 300 in five minutes, sometimes playing one second of a song sometimes just jumping.

Why is my player doing this? All the songs were downloaded from different websites and most of them were128 kps recordings. Even some mp3 which I ripped on the latest music match software did not play except for the first second or so.

Is it my players fault? Or is it that I recorded it on a CD RW and not CDR? I am trying to record it on another CD today. Hope it works. Please get back to me with the root of my problem.

Thanks

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Manish,

I had asked a question to Clayton Howard who maintain the area450 website for encore 450 which is UK`s version of sampo. He had sent me a mail and maybe included me on his mailing list. So I got a mail from him wherein he enclosed the latest firm ware file and asked us all to burn them on a CD and play that on our player. I hope McHale will clear all our doubts.

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Mchale,

I received an email from Clayton with an attachment which has the latest firmware 4.3. Do we need to burn this on a CD and load it on the DVD we brought from 800.com?Pl. advise.

Also if a television does not have a s video socket, can we buy an external device through which we can connect to our antenna socket and get s video quality as I have read that the quality of video on composite video is 240 lines of resolution which is same as VCR and hence playing DVD at this resolution hardly makes sense.

Mchale,

I am disappointed over my choice after reading your comments. I was really happy that I had a real good deal for 140 bucks. I am not a technical person and replacing dvd drives is the last think on my mind. Do you think that the DVD player is so bad that it needs a replacement? Please advice. thanks

Prasad

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

McHale,

I want to know how the sampo player plays the mp3 files?
Do we need to store all the files on the root directory or can I create folders like english and hindi and inside english, folders like new and old and inside old, I can have beatles, led zepp folders...etc. Will the player recognise this? Or does it confused and refuse to play my mp3 files? Pl. advice

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Thanks Manish,

I shall be glad to test it out. But I remember it to be analog. My DVD audio is not bad, its just that CD audio is more louder. Also please check your email as I need a favor from you.

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Mchale,

I am glad that I brought this before it got out of stock. Can you address my DVD sound issue in my earlier comment? Is it normal to have a difference between CD and DVD audio?

ps: just curious, but what do you do buying so many nos of DVD players?

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Hi McHale and Mr. Kaneria,

I could easily hack my Sampo yesterday. The only issue I have is that sound on DVD`s is pretty bad compared to the sound of a CD. When I play a CD on the player, my TV sounds very good and the volume is very high. But when I play a DVD, it is not as clear as a audio CD and the volume is much less. Any idea as to why this happens? In fact I had an apex player and it too was behaving the same way. So inspite of higher sampling rate, why is the audio on DVD movies not as good as audio cd?

My thanks to this forum and all the hackers for making the hacking of this player possible.

Bye
Prasad

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Thanks McHale.

Mine is expected on 30th and I will hack on the same day and and let you know. I am from India and am in US for few months only and hence want to accumulate as much DVD at as less as possible. I do not mind buying used ones as long as they work fine. You must have been to columbiahouse.com. After taking into account all your commitments, it still works out to something like 10 dollars a dvd and they have most of the ones released in 2000.

I hope my DVD is manufactured after 09/2000(although thats highly unlikely).

RE: Sampo 620 USA player hack and Macrovision info needed

Hi guys,

I ordered one from 800.com last week and it is on its way. I will try all these hacks once i have them and let you guys know.

Also buying a DVD at best buy/circuity city costs me 19 to 25 bucks. Do you guys have any idea as to whether I can buy stuff on the net cheaper than this? I know columbiahouse.com, but for that you need to be in US for two years to fulfill their long list of conditions.

RE: Is Region 1 Aiwa 370 hackable

Thanks Mr. Kaneria,

My name is Prasad. I will be around till april. So i am not sure whether I should buy right now or wait for some sale to happen. You were sounding very confident on the Sampo player. Has anyone you know brought it and if so, does it play well? Based on ur advise I may as well buy it before its gone as its earlier prices were 200 dollar and 175. Also as I told you, it does not make sense to buy legal hindi stuff india as they cost 800 rupees. so i will be playing the ones from china, taiwan, hongkong..etc which cost around 300 bucks. Since you are saying that they are region free, it does not matter for me even if i buy a region 1 buyer. Reg plugging, thats not an issue as i have been here earlier and had taken some stuff. all you need a power convertor for around 200 rupees. Thanks for your prompt replies

MCHALE - URGENT HELP WANTED

Thank you. The 620 you are referring to - is that the one available in US? Coz I have read about many players which can be easily hacked if brought in europe and not hackable if brought in US - best example aiwa 370. I am planning to buy the one in US. Please advise. Also performance wise, how good is this dvd player? is it worth 140 bucks or should i pay 50 more and get a samsung/toshiba? I want a player which plays DVD/VCD/CDR/MP3. Please advise as I will be in US for another two months and have to take one back with me to India

RE: Is Region 1 Aiwa 370 hackable

Thank you mr. kaneria.

I am not an NRI and have to go back. so I dont want to spend more than 150 bucks(US) on a dvd player. As I told you earlier, there is a sampo cd/vcd/dvd/mp3 player with pal and ntsc for around 140 bucks at 800.com. Based on the reviews in this site, that player is hackable. So i was just looking at the other alternatives I have here in US. Any advice from you. I think the maximum i can stretch is 10,000 bucks, but i also need a dvd player which plays mp3.

thanks again

RE: Is Region 1 Aiwa 370 hackable

HI MVK,

Which part of India are you in? Me too from India and I am also facing the same problem. There is a Sampo player on 800.com for 140 bucks. It too plays everything and has PAL also. I dunno about the APEX one. If they have another sale at circuit city for the 660 at 99 bucks, i shall grab one of them. One other thing, DVD`s are not available so easily in India. You have any idea whethe the DVD`s from Taiwan, Hongkong and china are region code free or whether they have a region code?

RE: Aiwai XR-DV370KN or Aiwa XD-DV370 ???

I want to buy a Aiwa 370 In US. I am not sure whether all the hacks are the ones for the UK ones or the US ones. Would anyone confirm to me whether Aiwa 370 purchased in US is hackable or not? Thanks

RE: Sampo DVE-620

Guys I am really impressed with all the reviews on region free dvd players. I am from India and am in US for a few months. I am planning to buy a dvd player from US and take it with me to India. Since DVD has not caught on in India, i dont want to spend a fortune. I have read tons of reviews on the APEX 600A, but the old ones are all sold out. I want a region free dvd player for under 150 bucks. I found sampo 620 on 800.com for 139 bucks. It seems from ur reviews that it can be made region code free.

Please advise as to whether sampo 620 is a good player? Can I make it region free? And compared to apex and other dvd players which would you think is the best for the price and easy to hack

I have also been to some nerd sites and their review of the apex dvd player seems to indicate that the cannot play the new dvd`s being released as they have something called seamless branching??? can yo explain me what this is and whether sampo too has that problem?

And one last question. does making it region free and macrovision free effect the picture and the way it plays movies? Pl. advise as i will be leaving for India soon.

Bye
