no picture when recording from video to my dvd recorder?? only sound

Wharfedale DVDRHD400F DVD Recorder with Freeview/80Gb HDD

Hi,I have just bought the above dvd recorder and is all connected and
working ok recording from the built in freeview and my external sky
box via the scart input. The problem I have is that I want to record
some of my old videos onto dvd format. These are old films recorded
from the tv and family dvds etc and are as such not copy protected.
When I try to connect the vcr I get sound but no picture.I have
recorded to dvd but only sound.I have left the scart from the new dvd
recorder(output) to my tv in place and removed the input which comes
from the sky box and replaced it with the feed from the vcr.I have also
removed this lead to test and put it straight into the tv and the vcr
works ok.I am positive the connections are right, should it be
possible to do what I am trying to do.Do I need to amend any of the
settings ????
Any help appreciated.
thanks
Gary
