RE: Free IBM PC

Found a couple of articles that could point out problems with this from The Register and Independent.co.uk. Independent.co.uk especially as it mentions having to pay £10 for every month remaining on the contract if you decide to stop.

RE: Alias Season 1 For £19.99 @ Amazon

Cool, a saving of £30 over play.com, and £40 over retail price

Just oredered mine :D

RE: Actron Portable DVD player from Scan - opinions

The reason I was looking at this player was that I could only find the cyberhome 710 etc for £250+ (am not keen on the Mustek or AMW/Ronin) when I was looking at spending around £200.

Just been on Novatech and they had 1 Arrgo left so I have got that at a total of £216. Am still interested in details of the Actron though just incase there are problems with the Arrgo.

I also found out the Arrgo isn`t a manufacturer it is a brand, and this player is actually a `CIS Arrgo` for those interested..

RE: Actron Portable DVD player from Scan - opinions

On further inspection and looking round www.globalsources.com I`m pretty sure this is not related to the cyberhome portables (which are actually made by CIS) or the Mustek, and is in fact manufactured by BBK.

Still any info on this dvd player would be greatly appreciated

RE: Actron Portable DVD player from Scan - opinions

Just found the same player on play.com as the Actron AE710

Actron Portable DVD player from Scan - opinions

Has anybody purchased the Actron Portable DVD player from Scan, or know any details about this player such as TFT quality etc? Do you know of any reviews?

I have found the same player as the Actron PD710, Actron AE P-710 and the BBK DL333.

I have a feeling that this may be related to either the cyberhome or mustek machines but am not entirely sure.

Any info on this player would be much appreciated as the spec looks pretty good.

RE: Are yelo and Scan still crap or have they improved at all now

The Scan has come a long way in the last couple of months, let alone the last year. The new models are firmware upgradable, so problems can get fixed. I`ve had mine since March and i`m more than happy with it. It supports mp3 (the problems with mp3 that you may have had before have now been fixed), audio cd, vcd and svcd (though there are a few problems with ff/rw in svcd at the moment, should be fixed in the next firmware release) as well as non standard vcd. Just an example, i`ve got a vcd that I encoded in mpeg1, using constant quality set at 100, with a bit rate of around 2000kbits/s, and a resolution of 704x576. Not exactly standard yet it plays like a dream on the Scan, brilliant quality. There should also be new features added soon (hopefully anyway) such as a feature similar to that of mp3, where you can just slap mpeg1, mpeg2, or even vob (DVD) files on a cd and play them with out the need of creating a (s)vcd.

If you want to know more there is a group set up for the Scan. The home page is:

Join and have a look around and find out what people think.

Scan 2000 2.07 to 1.80 problem? Any solution yet?

Just wondered if anybody had found a solution to downgrading the Scan players being shipped with firmware 2.07, (which get stuck and won`t let you upgrade again) to 1.80.

A few DVD`s run pretty poorly now, such as The Cell which was fine and now has jerky playback.

I emailed Nelly yesterday hoping that he might have replied today, however he didn`t.
