RE: philips 711

It IS really correct, after 25 times region swapping your DVD will be set at the last region setting and you won`t be able to change it anymore. So the best thing to do is to set it to multiregion (see region hacks).
Your dvd should be able to play Dolby Digital as well as DTS, I can confirm that.

Philips dvd macrovision disabled???

In a review on this site about the philips dvd711 player, the person who wrote it mentioned that by setting his player to multi-region, it also set the macrovision off. Can anyone confirm this, or is it just a fairy-tale?

RE: Philips DVD 711 Macrovision and zone hacks for Zone 4 - Australia

You should read the hardware review article about the philips DVD 711. The person that wrote the article said that by setting his dvd player to multi-region, he also disabled macrovision. However it hasn`t been verified by anyone else! If you would trie it, please let me know if it worked. I too, have a philips dvd711 player and I too am looking to disable macrovision. But I couldn`t do any remote hack yet, since I don`t have the proper remote control unit. At the moment I`m building a circuit to disable macrovision, but it still needs some corrections. I`m also trying to find a way to use a HP48GX calculator as a remote control to do the remote-hacks, I`m sure there`s a way to do it.

RE: Macrovision?????????

If you want to know anything about Macrovision, then read the faq on this page: http://nexus.thoic.net/macro.html It has also a good elektronic circuit that you can build to disable macrovision. I`ve made it, but it still needs some corrections for using it on DVD. I`m working on it.
Another way to defeat it is by using a remote hack that disables it. It`s the DVD player that reads a code on your disc, but it sends the macrovision signal by itself. You can test this by recording from a dvd and pushing the pause button, the macrovision distortion still comes back in cycles. The remote hacks to disable MV, I don`t know where to find them, but it might be possible that if you set your DVD player to all-regions with a remote hack; that it disables MV as well. You also can buy a Video stabilizer that you will find on a lot of on-line elektronic shops.

Which video stabilizer?

I would like to make a copy of my DVD movies, but I need to know which is a very good (PAL system) video stabilizer to do the job and where I can find it. I heard from some people that they had bought a stabilizer, but that it didn`t work with DVD.
P.S. I hope Allan Verth finds a remote hack to disable macrovision soon.
