Loop through scarts and the case of the missing RGB siganl (Harmon Kardon DVD10)

Great machine!

However my TV only has one RGB scart and before DVD this was used to give the best possible picture from my Sky digibox

Now I regard the DVD has having priority. So it is scarted straight to the TV as RGB. The TV still detects that it is RGB and displays it as so. I then put the Sky on a loop through via the second scart socket on the DVD. However my TV won`t recognise the RGB signal coming from sky. the DVD is on stand by(off) mode.
The TV detects the picture from sky but displays it as composite and not RGB. It`s almost like the DVD is filtering out the RGB and passing only composite.

The Sky has only RGB or composite as you all know. The composite picture is clearly inferior. I do have the option of using S-video on the DVD and going to the TV a different route but would sooner keep things like this.

Does this happen on all loop through scarts or is it just mine?

RE: Is the Harmon Kardon DVD10 hackable

Regarding Macrovision i`m not sure if the hack defeats Macrovision. I`ve had no reason to test.
I assume that you are having problems with getting a picture from your projector as some are less tolerant to macrovision films than regular TV`s.

...........and not attempting to copy dvd on to vhs.

(Personally I can`t see the point of copying dvd to vhs as it loses half of it`s picture quality and any digital surround sound. Dvd machines are getting to be as cheap as vcr`s these days so why bother. I get dvd`s for the HQ images and sound not to mention the interactive features.)

And that`s a F.A.C.T.

But enough of my personal opinions!

Am I cheeky enough to ask another question?
Too right I am.... it won`t recognise if i specify region 0 (ie 31415920) for all regions. subsequently it won`t play ANY discs.
Does setting it to 9 (31415929) give all-region play back.
I`ve not had chance to test it?

Good luck

RE: Is the Harmon Kardon DVD10 hackable

No mate my DVD10 is not modified by any chips or wires or whatever.
I got the code from harmon international (Europe) directly through my hi-fi dealer who is on very good terms with the head office in the technical department. I could give names but i don`t want to cause any trouble.
Needless to say, the code i gave on the previous message is correct. It is the same code as the origional DVD1 but the procedure is slightly different.

The code is entered when the machine is ON and displaying NO DISC. Enter 31415921 for region 1 and 31415922 for region 2 (and so on i guess but I`m only doing R1 and R2)
The display will show POWER ON. Load up the tray and away you go.

I watched The Matrix on region 1 it was awesome. It coped with all the White Rabbit and all that. It hasn`t refused any disc (yet)

Happy Viewing.

RE: Is the Harmon Kardon DVD10 hackable

How sad is this, replying to my own thread !!!

Have now got the dvd10 by Harmon Kardon. It is the D`s B`s. The hack has changed slightly:

switch on player
ensure tray is empty, deck will try to scan
when deck displays "no disc" key the following
"3 1 4 1 5 9 2" followed by the region number
deck will now display"power on"
the hack is now complete and deck is configured to the requested region.
I`ve been selecting the region specific to disc as i have tried setting it to region 0 ( to save time ) but, typically, R2 version of M:I-2 wouldn`t play. the hack is simple enough, just make sure you`ve got "no disc" displayed or else you`re wasting your time

HARMON KARDON DVD10 RULESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

Harmon Kardon DVD1 versus DVD10

Has anyone heard of this model (Harmon Kardon DVD10).
it is the redesign to the DVD1 which was good in it self. but I can`t find any info about it at all. the exterior hasn`t changed except for the model name.
I`m told by the shop owner that the processing on the DVD10 has been improved and that the price has reduced.(£380) I`ve seen it playing R2 discs with stunning clarity. the menu system seemed slick enough but i can`t compare it to the DVD1 as I`ve yet to view it.
If/When I buy it (only if it can go multi-region, see hack forum) I`ll give you an update

Is the Harmon Kardon DVD10 hackable

The Heading says it all. I requested a DVD 1 from my dealer (HiFi that is!!!), based on the fact that it was hackable from the handset. She said that they have redesigned the DVD 1 and have called it the DVD 10.

I`ve just been to her shop and tried the hack as per the DVD1 ... NO JOY!!!! The deck hasn`t changed that much, still the same fascia, connections etc. I`ve been told that there have been changes to the processing but none of the "features" have been lost. but still the hack wouldn`t work. Needless to say I`m loath to part company with my hard earned cash until the matter is resolved.

The DVD10 was literally hot off the production line. There is no mention of this version anywhere on the web.(Harmon`s website doesn`t even show the DVD1). It does seem strange that they have re-released it as a different model No. and a cheaper price (£380 as opposed to £450, good saving!!!) and in doing so blocked this very handy hack on such a high quality player.

If there is any information on the deck or the hack out there please let me know.
