RE: Cheap 5.1 Sound....

no ...
it`s not that dodgy either.
I took a Y cable .. reversed it ... lead the two back outputs from the sony into the BAck input on the sub-woofer/amp. .. and the same for the front speakers ..
ran ANOTHER Y cable into the tv`s input, (also a Sony) .. for the TV to produce the centre speaker sound ... (mono of course) ..
The only think the system really lacks is a proper dedicated Sub-woofer ... There`s nothing dodgy about it .. it`s as poor as the Sound quality could get with surround .. but at least it`s surround whilst I have no money ...
PLUS ... oh . I`ve forgotten the plus ..
anyway .. this setup only cost me £30 ... and is fine ... in one small room .. I`m not going to get THX`d up until a) I can afford it .. and B) I can dedicate a room to it ...

It`s not dodgy .. it`s just never going to be ULTIMATE SOUND SYSTEM 2000 ...

Cheers :-)

RE: Sony DVP S336

Hallo mate ...

If you`re having dilemma`s about your PC setup ... Get a decent Video card with S-Video Out, and a 5.1 card inside your PC .. then You`ll be able to play you`re Multi region discs on that 28incher ...Remember it`s not size but what you do with it that counts .. Mine`s massive .. but I only use it at 50% of it`s capacity :-)

Seriously though the main thing you have to watch with outputting the DVD signal from the puter is the wide-screen mode .. Which is dependant on the resolution you`re running in ...

I know when I turn TV Power on on my radeon it then give`s me a brand new choice of resolution in the display properties ... and this is quite quite confusing ...

RE: scan v sony picture quality?

I`ve got a Sony .. the 735 ... or something like that. .... hang on .. I`ll check ...
yeah .. DVP-S735S ..And Also a DVD Player with HIGH quality interconnects running from an Excellent DVD/Graphics Card setup in my computer...
The computer setup is basically what a scan DVD player is ...
In fact .. I`m guessing that most of these new companies that are popping up with budget DVD players (all wanting to be the new AIWA) are basing them around bastardised DVD-ROMS .. (easy mp3 integration ..etc...) ...
Anyway .. the picture quality between the two is difficult to tell (when viewing it from an amateur point of view (after all what do I know) .. but it seem just about right what someoneorother said earlier in this thread .. that when the colours stain on the cheaper combination (which actually cost over £350!) you notice how powerful the Sony system is.
I`m rambling now ..
uh .. bye

Cheap 5.1 Sound....

Trust me .. You`ve no need to do it with one of them Scan systems.

If you want to be a REAL cheapo whilst waiting for that THX system that you`re OBVIOUSLY gonna get .. (sarcasm not working here) ...
Just buy a couple of cheap 4 speaker PC Setups ...
Piece of pith ...
Then with some creative wiring from the onboard decoder on you DVD player ... I forgot to mention that didn`t I? .. anyway .. you`ll get a quality of sound that`s not indifferent to that of the Scan System for more than likely less than £60 ...

Not bad eh?
