Schneider DVD 855 Information

For all those who care - heres a little info that I obtained from Schneider today.

They are no longer producing the 855 dvd player and it has been marked as discontinued therefore ASDA will not be getting anymore in stock.

There is a new player which will be available in April cunningly called
the dvd 856 - I am waiting for details regarding spec and region hacks
but im assuming most features will be identical to the 855, but I have no information about pricing as yet.

Some other useless information received -

Schneider only supply ASDA in the UK
Schneider do not *make* the Pacific players but actually import them for ASDA

Well thats what I have been told anyway!

Regards

Anthony

Samsung M104B from ASDA

Hi all
I am looking for a region hack for this player. Having looked around the net, there is little or no information available about this player!
I have tried the hack for the 105 which doesnt seem to work so if anyone has hacked this player or knows how too I would be eternally grateful

Kind Regards

Anthony

Schneider DVD 855 CD-Rom Upgrade

Hi all,

Re- Lip sync problems and poor quality MPEG decoder

I have spoken to Schneider UK and they are awaiting the release of a firmware upgrade which will be available from them although I am told it must be requested in writing. Not as easy as it should be really given the advertising on the box, and no different to other manufacturers. You`d have thought the upgrades would have been available through ASDA stores atleast! oh well we will just have to wait and see.

Regards

Ant

RE: Schneider 855 for £99.94

I purchase one of these players a couple of weeks ago from Asda for £149 quid, took it home and was happy, until I noticed the lip sync problems with some disks eg. something about mary.

The firmware version was 6.2.0

As I am a perfectionist I took the player back to Asda to try another.

On exchanging the player I noticed the price reduction and the customer service woman refunded £49 and gave me a replacement box (you may want to try this if you bought it for £149 - Asda dont argue about exchanges if you give them a decent reason)

The replacement player has a firmware version of 5.0.2 or something and still has lip sync errors on the same disks.
Also version 5 firmware has a better picture on lower quality video used for extras on some disks compared with the version 6 firmware although it still isn`t as good as the older Schneider DVD810.

All i can assume is that the player does have a problem with the MPEG decoder on the machines but is only noticeable on some titles.

I therefore hope that Schneider will release an update pretty soon
to correct this little glitch and then the player will be an outstanding buy for those of us who can`t afford to spend £500 on a big name brand.

Mind you for £99 can you quibble?

RE: schneider 811

I cannot say, but I doubt it.

RE: schneider 811

Having the Schneider 811 player I can confirm that the Region hack is the same as for the 511

Make sure there is no disk in the player
Press:

Menu
1
6
7

The region selection option will now appear. Key in 1-6 for the region code you desire or MUTE for all regions

Hope this helps

Anthony
