RE: Range control with home cinema system

Yep.
I`ve already got a dvd player (wharfedale m5) so I`ll buy a amp/receiver.
I`ve seen the kenwood one advertised for £180 (http://store.europe.yahoo.com/qed-uk/2125050ds.html).
Are there any others that can be recommended? I notice that the
d.r.control isn`t mentioned so unless people here can tell me if the amp
has that mode I won`t know. Guess I`ll have to pop into richer sounds
to get some advice

Range control with home cinema system

Hi
Some time back I asked about the problem of late night viewing with DVD players. They go from nearly silent when theres whispering to
too loud when theres action scenes.
I was told that some home cinema kits have dynamic range control to help sort this out. I went into the sony/comet shop and the guys there have never heard of it.
Is this a feature of the DVD player or the audio system. What systems
have it? How can I find out more? How can I find out how to sort this
out?

RE: Anybody exchanged a 750/750s for a M5??????

I changed my 750 for an M5. Theres the problem that the 750 was reduced in price quite a lot (£100?) later so if you don`t have a receipt
your probably knackered. I bought mine for £180. Oddly enough they
wouldn`t exchange it but would give me a refund?
Basically to change it you have to claim theres a problem with it.

RE: DVD to video CD??

If your ripping the dvd to your harddrive and playing from there (using
cladDVD for instance) then the macro vision removal is mostly built in.
I think dvd genie can do this kind of stuff as well. (need 5 gig free)

For anything like this just do a search for the keywords in http://www.google.com. For general dvd hacking try http://www.digital-digest.com.

RE: Can a DivX movie be played on a DVD player?

sure its vcd? I`ve got sixth sense, original version, on vcd. You can tell
easily its vcd, especially on the action scenes (such as there are).
Also I`ve got copied versions of the matrix and frequency and they
both suck.
On the other hand I had a go at hollow man, converting to svcd and I
was damn impressed. For the most part its hard to tell its not a
dvd (although again on the action scenes you can).
Could be wrong and perhaps divx->vcd works well. Wouldn`t be
surprised if your converting to svcd by mistake though.
How did you do it?

RE: Letropacks macrovision remover

- wharfedale M5 (£180, tescos)
- £60 unit (I posted the URL earlier under this heading)

My video is cheap and I doubt it can play NTSC tapes. It does have
scart input which is how of course I made the copy. I didn`t have to
alter any settings, it just worked by magic. The region 1 tape was played
via the 62832 (I think) hack which is floating about.

The DVD does do PAL 50 according to the main web site. The URL is
below along with an extract from it

http://www.wharfedale.co.uk/m5specs.htm

"Will convert NTSC output to PAL 60 or PAL 50 format and vice versa, if required (via general setup menu"

Your welcome

RE: Can a DivX movie be played on a DVD player?

Worth mentioning that when I had a play I got a divx file of about 1.8G,
SVCD files are about that big and, on my attempt, were of better
quality and of course play on DVDs.
I assume here that your copying DVDs to get these in the first place
Perhaps I`m doing divx wrong though as I didn`t spend too much time on them

Letropacks macrovision remover

Ok I bought it. Ordered on weekend, came monday (although the
particular deliverary company were crap, refused to deliver in afternoon,
I was expected to just stay in all day waiting for them!
Anyway the actual letropack product. Tried:
xmen region1, no problem at all, just plain worked
matrix region 2, ditto
videos, ditto

Not much of a review I`ll grant you but thats because it just worked straight from the box, no tweaking required, no 5 minute wait, nothing

RE: People Looking For a Macrovision Remover

I`ve got one Region 1 disk and the rest are region 2. When you say thats
it not that good for Region 2 how bad is it?
Given the choice between the maplin and the one from lektro
(http://www.lektropacks.co.uk/acatalog/cm-1.html) which one is the
better or they the same?
