The NTSC system outputs 60hz. You TV probably can not properly handle this signal through RGB. Perhaps you can adjust this through a service menu of some sort.

DVD:s/SVCD:S are Mpeg 2 and VCD:s are Mpeg 1. Divx ;) is a hack on MS Mpeg 4 format, this can naturaly not be played on a regular DVD player. You can however conver it into SVCD but this is a very time consuming process and you would end up with something below VHS quality spanning multiple cd:s. Now is that what you want? Now is it!

RE: Pioneer dv340 or dv530 - what do you think??

I would recomend the dv530 over the newer dv340 since it does not have RGB. The only real advantage to the dv340 is that it is supposed to make slightly less noise. But if you value the best possible picture quality through RGB you should get the dv530. I have myself recently ordered the dv530 for the reason mentioned above.
