RE: Clayts is the Terminator.....

I`m afraid I have been dermeenayded by Clayts. Sorry Clayts for my ignorance. Am I forgiven, or has Skynet not given you the power of forgiveness?

Thanks for a great forum. That wasn`t too crawly bum-lick was it?

Grundig GDV 520 Owners - Update disc available from Mastercare!!!

Hi, Everyone,

Ok, I never really thought properly and posted this on the Software forum, and got duly reprimanded from Clayts, sorry Clayts, I am one of those eejits you just have to put up with. In my defence, I thought an upgrade disc was a software related thang as it comes on a shiny silvery circular thing! :-D Anyway, Clayts, I apologise.

This was my original posting:

GDV 520 Owners,

I registered a few weeks ago with Mastercare for an update disc, then heard nothing until 5 minutes ago. Apparantly they now have the latest update disc, which they claim fixes Terminator 1 and Dinosaur problems. (Don`t have Dinosaur, but knew a couple of you had asked about it).

Anyway, they told me I should have it by the end of the week!! Give them a ring and claim your disc now!!!

Hope this helps, people,

Ironman

Just to add to that, in Mastercare`s usual efficient style, they sent me two upgrade discs, so if anyone in the UK wants one and can`t get hold of one, I will post it out to them on one condition: that they post it on to anyone else who needs or requests it.

Does that sound fair? First come first served basis. E-mail me at 025gidnurg[at]moc.oohay with your postal address and I will pop it in 1st class for you.

For the others who cannot wait, I have uploaded the contents of the disc to a Yahoo Briefcase account. You can download it and burn it to a CD-RW I would imagine. The link is:

http://uk.y42.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/grundig520/lst?.dir=/Grundig_GDV520&.view=l&.src=bc&.done=http%3a//uk.y42.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/grundig520/lst%3f.dir=/Grundig_GDV520%26.src=bc%26.view=l

If that doesn`t work, then let me know at the bottom of this thread.

If you do download this file, the instructions are:

Switch player on, ensure there is NO disc in player.
Press 7, 6 then the Camera Angle button.
Menu appears : Update Software 1/Yes 2/No
Press 1
Open drawer, insert disc, close drawer and wait for TWO minutes, the unplug from the mains for at least 10 seconds. Reconnect power plug.
It says that the language selection screen appears, but it didn`t on mine, anyway, press 1 if it does to select English.
Remove upgrade disc.

And thats it.

Anyway, I updated my machine, it now plays Terminator 1 and Goldeneye (First version) with no problems. The guy at Mastercare said it also fixes the Dinosaur problem, but seeing as though I don`t have this disc I can`t comment.

The startup screen is different now (as Oritron users have stated) it no longer has the Grundig Fine Arts logo, so it sounds as if it is the same as the Oritron update. The readme.txt file is different to the one that accompanies the Tevion update, so I would be a little reluctant to try that one, if anyone (like me) was tempted.

Hope this helps some of you.

Ok, th-th-th-th-thats all folks!

PS The region hack still works after upgrading.

RE: Grundig GDV520 incompatibility

Has anyone tried flashing the firmware on the 520 yet? I have downloaded the Tevion update and burnt it to a CD-RW but am cautious about flashing my machine! Is the GDV 520 an Oritron 600 clone or not? Should I go ahead and flash the mother?!

TIA

RE: Grundig GDV520 incompatibility

520 Owners,

I have had a few problems with this player and the following discs:

Goldeneye,
Terminator,
Alien 3.

That is the sum of my problems so far (apart from the whistling sub!)

Anyway, after reading this thread, I rang Mastercare and asked for the Oritron disc, which they refused to send out to me! So after arguing with the stupid woman I asked for a manager who informed me that the 520 update disc is being burnt now, and should be ready in a couple of weeks.

So, ring them up and tell them to put your name down for one!

Of course, Mastercares two weeks is more likely to be two months, so if anyone gets an Oritron disc and it works, please advise the rest of us! (Personally I am not brave enough to flash my machine with the Oritron disc!)

BTW, has anyone had any success with CD-R / CD-RW`s in this machine?

Thanks,

I
