Beginners beware! Connect cables the right way round!

For people not following my previous thread about problems with my Toshiba setup, I was having problems with dolby digital sound. I discovered this morning that the co-ax cable is uni-directional, no-one told me! So if you are having problems check that your cable is the right way round!

Relieved but embarressed!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, and I have now solved my problem. Noone told me that the co-axial cable is uni-directional! 50/50 chance and I put it the wrong way round! Pity it says nothing in the instructions, and the Hi-Fi dealer said nothing, well what do I expect for £70 worth of cables (including Scart).
Anyway I can now sit down and enjoy the full blown Dolby Digital of my Toshiba setup.
I am not going to tell my wife that I made such a mistake, she thought the sound was good even without the digital!

How to set up Dolby Digital on Toshiba 32ZD98B?

I apologise if this seems to be the same question asked elsewhere as I am still a new comer to the forum and still don`t know the best way to continue threads...anyway


I have connected my new Toshiba DVD SD210E to my 32ZD98B Toshiba TV using scart to scart on EXT3 and co-axial for sound, but I am a little confused about setting up the TV for Dolby digital sound.
In the AV connection Menu for the TV, if I setup the Digital Input as EXT3 (same as the scart) then I get no sound. I only get sound if I set it to EXT2 but is this giving me Dolby Digital?
If I set up EXT 1 I have the same problem when selecting EXT1 from the menu...any ideas?

Got it and it looks and sounds great! Webelectricals will not price match but Barclaycard themselves have a price promise so if you buy with Bcard then phone them for a refund.
I have checked it and it auto plays MR. I am not sure what macrovision disable is, sorry.

All I know that the SD210 is newer than the SD110 and has been getting very good reviews. You can get it for as little as £179 with MR.

Yes, you will need either an external amp or a TV with a built in dolby digital amp. I am no expert but have spent time reading the answers in this forum so I am afraid you will need an amp for the Dolby Digital. You can link it through your hifi for stereo sound but to get the full delights of the Dolby digital I am afraid that you will need an amp.

As for worrying about buying over the net I purchased via the Barclaycard site using Barclaycard and so it comes complete with a 12 month Barclaycard guarentee as soon as you register it with them. They then offer an extra 4 year warentee at a reasonable cost. The DVD from Web Electricals is MR and they warentee it as well.

Yes the DVD is multi-region but I am not sure about RCE compliant. I am having it delivered tomorrow so I will let you know about the quality but all of the reviews that I read reckon its very good. I have purchased good quality leads (Ixos scart and co-axial) as recommended by many in this forum so along with my Dolby Digital Toshiba I hope to sit back and get blown away.
At £179 who can complain?

I eventually bought mine through the Barclaycard indigo Square site that has a price promise guarentee. Thw actual purchase was via Web electricals and the player is Multi Region. The price promise was taken against a price of £179 at DVD Specialists, so I recknon its a good deal!

More questions about TV/DVD connections!

I am a novice when it comes to TV and DVD etc, and I do not know much about the technicalities. However I do know that what I buy I would like to be the best option for the money.
I have had some very good advice but I still do not understand the best option for my TV to DVD connection. The sound connection I now understand, the choice being between using either co-axial or optical. But what do I do for the picture signal? My TV is a Toshiba 32ZD98B and my proposed DVD purchase is the SD210E. The DVD has component out, and I have been told that I con connect this to the TV RCA phono, what does this mean? Can I use a scart or do I just need s-video out/in or what? This really is something that I do not understand, so although this may seem obvious to everyone else it is as clear as mud to me!
