Compacks 5.1 RGB Output
Bought this from Safeway for 79.99. Excellent machine super slim 45mm, plays everything VCD hack works fine and multiregion.
As it also plays CD+G discs and has a Karaoke facility with mic inputs I cannot seem to find any way of enabling the RGB function on the Scart. I would have thought that as it has component video it would of had the facility. It is a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent machine for the money.
Am I missing something

RE: Compacks 5.1 RGB Output
Although this is an excellent machine for the money, I decided that with the lack of RGB and the locking up when viewing MPEGS and playing some MPĀ£`s I would go and exchange it for the Maxim MX-11-20 also from safeway at the same price.
Is a super slim model with Karaoke and all the bells and whistles of the Compaks. It has RGB and doesn`t exhibit the minor flaws of the Compaks. It plays VCD`s and multiregion without any Mods. The picture I would say is better and the stereo sound from the optical output is superior to the Compaks.

I`m fairly new to this....Can someone explain to me what RGB is and why I need it?
I want a fairly cheap DVD and my local Safeway stocks the Compacks but not the maxim. Is it worth going for the Compacks or should I try and find the Maxim or something else for a similar price....?
All I want is a cheap machine that plays mp3`s, uk dvd`s and vcd`s - my family would like the karaoke option but it`s by no means a must have.
Any advice please?
Dave
i`m no expert when it comes to rgb so i can`t comment. i have the compacks machine and it plays my vcds very well, my friend has the maxim and it struggles with them. playback has the mouths moving before the words come out and i know that puts him off, so if you just want to play dvds and vcds my advice would be the compacks
