does anyone know if you can take the digital output from this to a PC (what sort of capture card would the PC need) so that if i had recorded a digital program from freeview onto the hardrive i could then run the cable into my pc and burn the program to a dvd? if not, are the h/d`s standard units that i could take out and slot into the h/d caddy on my PC? is it likely to be a format my encoder/burner/whatever can handle? thanks anyone

I think it is on thier website. I was looking at one of these too. You can output what you have recorded to a VCR via the scart. So maybe you could convert from scart to a capture card.

I`m sure it says it uses its own file system though so you cant copy the files by slaving the disk in a PC. I might be mistaken though as I had a look at a few models.

There`s a serial port on the back, but it would take a while to download any video through that, even if it were possible. I`ve not dumped anything to tape yet, but it`s possible to do this whilst watching something else via the 2 SCARTs.

It`s a clever box that I`m happy with for now.

If you want to record Freeview on a PC it`s probably best to buy a TV card that does it, then you can capture the digital stream for best possible quality.

The 20GB drive is a bit on the small side - anyone know if it`s easy to replace it with a bigger one? I have a spare 60GB drive I can use.

Don`t hesitate folks this is a great little box. The only down side for me is the EPG menu. It is capable of handling seven days but the broadcasters are only showing now and next so you have to manually set times via the remote for timer records beyond whats showing now and next. When the timer recording takes place it does however retrieve all the programmes titles information which is usal when looking at the programme list in the library

The other downer for me is when a recording is made, say a film of 2 nours in length its not possible (i don`t think) to delete the commercials in order to save space.

I bought a phillips dvdr 70 for recording programmes but was very dissapointed by its reliability . This has been a great replacement.

Sure 20 gb is only 10 hours bit if you record and erase programmes regularly like me its plenty of memory. Any films I want to archive i`d prefer to buy on dvd anyway.

£198 is a reasoniblle price for this nice peice of kit. If you r tempted to upgrade to sky + then this is still pretty good for use in another room.

Why dont you have a look at the Humax PVR-8000T?

It has a 40GB drive and costs less than the Pace box.

Because the Humax only has one decoder and so can only record the channel it is on. The pace has dual decoders and so can ercord one channel while you watch another. And for £30 is well worth the extra
