Got the 4x version, works well.

Lots of 8x drives out but not a lot of media? Any under £1 each?

I have the 8 speed version. No problem burning discs whatsoever. The only downside to this drive is that there is no way to make it multi region.

This is probably a stupid question, but I`ve only just started thinking about getting one of these. Why would you want it multi-region? Are you talikng about purely for playback, or is there a reason regarding burning?

If I bought this would I be able to use the burned DVDs in a normal DVD system?

Jesus Christ! You could choke a donkey on that!

Just for playback. When you burn a DVD, it doesn`t matter what region it is.

I don`t watch many DVDs in my computer room, but would like to have the option.

Sorry, just noticed the second part of your question. Yes, as long as your DVD doesn`t have a problem with the type of media you choose to burn onto, you shouldn`t have a problem.

I am using Bulkpaq orange blank DVDs and watching them on a LG3150 and there is no problem whatsoever.

I beleive it is mainly the older DVD players that have problems with certain media.

hi,

can anyone confirm if thi drive burns dvd-r at 8 speed. on the ebuyer web site it doesnt say but on the lg one it says only 4x and 8x for dvd+r.

i wanted to get but it but this 4x speed let me down not that it makes much of a diff. i think the NEC one is 8x for both plus and minus.

or does anyone know if there is a firmware that lets this drive write 8x for dvd-r too.

please let me know.

thanks

Re: the multi-region aspect, I seem to think that AnyDVD allows you to read discs from any region. However, some drives don`t play ball - mine is one of them (a Philips 208K - that`ll teach me to be an early adopter!).
