Page 1 of Sammy 15" TFT/LCD tv
Bargain Buckets Forum
I`ve just picked up a 15" Samsung SM510MP tft monitor for £199, which may not sound that good a deal but it also has a built in tv tuner, speakers and comes with teletext and remote control. Has both pc connections and standard tv connections so can be used as a stand alone tv.
It`s on Dixons website, but is not available in all areas. I got mine from PC World who still have it priced at £299 but they price matched at £199. Bargain I think.
Excellent, I`ll have to see if the local Dixons has one at that price. 3 year warranty too.
Does it have AV inputs? Scart/Svideo/composite?
What`s the picture quality like? I think I saw one in the shop once, and it didn`t seem too great - but then again, none of them did.. I think they`re never set up properly, or people have fiddled...
Cheers,
Steve.
It`s got AV and S-video connectors on the side and a scart at the back.
This is my first tft so I haven`t got much to compare it with but first impressions are good. I haven`t given the tv much use yet as I`ve only got a poor quality indoor aerial to use but what i could see looked okay. It`s got a good range of pre sets for both pc use and tv use i.e text, entertainment, internet plus a custom setting.
To be honest i was looking for a 17" monitor but the chance to get a combined monitor and tv for £199 was too good an opportunity to miss even if it is 15" (it`s the same size as my old 17" CRT anyway)

`I plan to live forever, or die trying` ;)
Useless Dixons.
Myself and a friend ordered 3 of these (for personal use, NOT for selling for a profit before anyone complains - took us over the 500 barrier needed to use the relevant discount code!) Got order confirmation email. Then got an email saying `Sorry, we haven`t got any, call for alternatives.` Called and they had no alternatives and had cancelled the order. They say they don`t intend to order any more in. Still waiting for supervisor to call back, as requested. (2 days now).
My friend wasted a couple of hours going to the local branch, who said the same thing, but that the local PC World had 3 in stock. So he went there. They refused to price match with an internet price, or with an `out of stock` item, despite it being the same company. >:(
This is not the first time that Dixons advertise cheap items that they don`t have any of. It was the same with the terrestrial digital boxes they were advertising on TV and in papers a few months back - none in stock, and none ordered until they put the prices back up. They obviously only had a couple of them, but continue to promote them.
The order process even has a `checking for stock` message which didn`t indicate that there weren`t any, and allowed the order to proceed.
I`m thinking of going to trading standards on this - it`s not like it`s a blatant error that they`ve noticed and rejected all sales of - 200 quid is a cheap price but not a mistake. Dixons are just once again falsely advertising products.
I doubt it`ll do any good mind...
Has anyone else managed to find any of these? They supposedly did a national search and didn`t find any. Is there any magic phrase to make PCWorld and Currys price match their partner company?
Shame that Technomatic/Microwarehouse has just been bought out by Dixons group too. We used to do a lot of trade with them...
Steve.
Hi I had the same problem, local store had them in but would not price match, this is the reply I received from dixons.

Thank you for your e-mail. The On-line service and Stores are 2 complete
different business units therefore we have our own stock supply and price lines
that we adhere to. The stock is originally held in the same warehouses but then
our stock is distributed to the local delivery centres or to our national
despatch centre. A store does not have to honour the website price of any item.
If you are wishing to purchase the item, if you continue to check the website as
our Head Office replenish stock on a daily and weekly basis.
Sorry I could be of no further assistance.
Kind Regards

I have just ordered one from the dixons website, Yesterday they were out of stock, But today they seem to be in :) .
I was able to place a coupon code on this item to get a bit more off but there was no sign of free delivery for this item? :/
Are they really in? They didn`t indicate they were out when we ordered them, but they still cancelled the order that they`d already confirmed. Maybe I`ll try again.
Tried again, this time it says `due to high demand, item unavailable`. Which it didn`t say last time, it let us order them.
Steve.

Well I got an Email confirming the accepted order and no other emails yet about cancellation.
I did put in my post code in as requested at the order page yesterday and it came back and stated no stock in my area or something to that matter, But today all was O.K.
Goog luck, It is worth a try as these are very cheap, Not sure about the £19.99 delivery charge though as Currys only charge £6.99 for the same item even though their site is dearer. :/
