Cheap CD/MP3 portable at Dixons

Paul Bines (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 1st June 2004, 15:48

In my local Dixons on Saturday there were Packard Bell PB-0P3 portable CD players, which can read MP3 recordings, at half price - £29.88
There was also the PB-0P4, which is the same spec, but with transparent panels on the lid, and no power supply (the PB-0P3 comes with both mains adapter and headphones)
The sound quality is pretty good - depending, of course, on the quality of the MP3 file, and there is a line out socket for connection to a hi-fi. Runs off 2 AA batteries, and if NiCads are used, plugging in the mains adapter will charge them up.

I did post a message about the PACKARD BELL OP4 which is available on line for £29.99 (see thread "PACKARD BELL personal MP3/CD player £29.99")

Basically go to Dixons website and enter product code 570860

It seems like a pretty good deal but the "up to 9 hours play back time" is a little off-putting.

Sorry about that - I missed your post!
I think the `9 hours playback` probably refers to the battery life - I`ve got several MP3 CD`s with 10 hours or more (one has 13 hours of Lord of The Rings !) and had no problems playing it so far!
The headphones that come with it are ok - but you could do a lot better; I haven`t tried hooking it up to my hifi yet, but in theory the sound quality should be more than acceptable!

Paul
