Dawn of the Dead (Original) for under a fiver
ASDA are selling Arrow Films` new release for £4.97. It`s a pretty good disc, and certainly worth a look if you want to check out the film without buying the Ultimate Edition or the boxed set. It has two commentaries, plus a great new documentary.
RE: Dawn of the Dead (Original) for under a fiver
Is the Arrow version the directors cut version and uncut??...there are so many versions out there I never know which one to buy (I only have the `trilogy of the dead` boxset so far with the extended - but cut version) I saw it in ASDA tonight but couldnt remember what the running time was of the slightly shorter directors cut compared to the `extended` version in the box.. and I couldnt see anywhere on the box to say it was uncut
either way, for a fiver its a bargain ;)

The Arrow version is the U.S. Theatrical Cut, George`s preferred cut of the film. I think this disc is more or less identical to the single disc R1 Divimax edition released by Anchor Bay.
The longer Cannes cut is generally referred to as the `Director`s cut` with approx 15m extra footage.

See what I mean about the confusion...lol..when I said directors cut I was refering to the `theatrical cut` which is the directors preferred cut...The extended cut is widely labeled as the `directors cut` I already have (although edited) in the boxset...I might well get the Arrow one ...

Don`t worry, I`m not confused :)
However, just to confuse things a little more for everyone else, don`t forget that if Arrow have sourced the film from Anchor Bay it may actually contain the Anchor Bay `Rogue` Theatrical Cut and not the genuine Theatrical Cut. Haven`t watched my Arrow disc as yet so can`t say for sure..........!
As you have the edited extended version, Anchor Bay`s 4 x DVD ultimate set might be worth picking up. Although labelled Region 1, it is Region 0 NTSC.
Disc One: Divimax Theatrical Cut - potentially the same as Arrow Films UK release
Disc Two: Extended Version with commentaries from all 4 lead stars
Disc Three: Argento Cut - Faster paced yet contains dialogue not available in other cuts
Disc Four: Extras incl. Document of the Dead & Ken`s mall tour
Last time I checked, £19.99 at CD-WOW. Dont forget your vouchers, rpoints and i-points 8)

I`ve watched the Arrow release. What`s the difference between the `rogue cut` and the theatrical release?

your best of trying in the dvd forum for that answer... as for ASDA im def gonna pick a copy up as i dont own it! SHOCK
and i would nt watch all those versions in the sp ecition triple pack..
RE: Dawn of the Dead (Original) for under a fiver
The UK versions of Dawn Of The Dead are usually cut, at least they were on video, even when they were claimed to be the "uncut Director`s version"! Most of them don`t contain part of the head being blown off with a shotgun scene near the beginning of the film when the police storm the building. It`s only a few seconds but it usually gets cut on the UK releases :-(
That`s why I kept my original USA laserdisc box set of this film...
Maybe if someone in the know can post whether this is true on the UK/R2 DVDs it would be appreciated.

Thats what annoys me, my copy (in the trilogy boxset) is missing the zombie head shot and the zombie bite on the woman in the appartment building and the shooting of the zombie kids at the airfield, yet when the film was shown on BBC2 a few months ago it was shown uncut with all three of these scenes intact...why can I see it on tv but it is edited on the DVD`s??? I was gonna get the `Ultimate` set, still might...hmmm wheres that visa card :D lol
