SKY + (Existing customers)

scoobydoobydoo (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 21st October 2005, 08:51

I know that this has been covered in previous threads, but thought I would let everybody
know that the £65 deal for existing customers is still on !

conversation went something like this :

phoned 08705488485 (cancellations)

ME - "Hello, I would like to cancel my sky please"

SKY - "Ok sir, and is there any reason for this ?"

ME - "Well .... I rang last week and asked if I could upgrade to SKY+ but the lady said it would cost me £200 ? I cant afford that and a few people I know said they got it for £65 ? (I didnt really ;) )

SKY - "Obviously sir we do not want to lose your custom so I will put you on hold for a few minutes and speak to my superviser to see what offers are on at the moment".

ME (Thinking she will come back with the Multiroom subscription offer at £10 per month extra)

SKY - "Hello sir. I can do you the £65 one off payment for SKY +. The engineer will take your old box away though. Is that o.k ?

ME - "I supppose so" ;)

I then had to agree to take the Movies or Sports (I only had the family package at £22 p/m), which bumps it up t £34 p/m, but with no SKY+ subscription.

Easy !!!! (Oh and rang the engineers dept to ask what type of box it would be - he said there pretty much only doing PVR3 (Pace) boxes now and I was down for one anyway)

Installation Monday !!!!!!!!!

You could have probably saved a few more quid than that.

They are doing sky+ boxes for 49 quid for new customers. You could have rang, said you wanted to cancel and re-sign because new customers get the sky+ for 49 and I suspect they would have done it you for that price.

Im getting sky+ soon and saw this price on their site yesterday.

question1: presumably finished 1 year contract with sky plus? u had the family package and payed 10 pounds extra, right? if u didnt renew ur contract what wud have happened? ur sky plus box wud have stopped working? wud u be able to use ur plus box as a normal box, xept for the recording facility? please enlighten.

2. ure upgrading from a 40 gb to 160 gb i presume, for this 65£?

3.with the new contract, in total how much r u paying xtra a month, 2£ more than ur initial family pack? a bit confusing because u said u were paying only the family pack before.

4. wudn tit be actually be cheaper if u did ur own upgrade, simple procedeure apparently!, to 250 gb, for aroung 80£? sure u dont get a 1 year warranty, but then ure not tied to another year of contract either, and u cud simply keep ur old family pack if thats what u were happy with?

dont think so! then every existing customer wud re-sign as a new customer! its one connection per household. u cud move to a different address and try ur partners name . after that u`ll never be a "new customer" again, i think, unless u keep moving houses all the time!

I think you`ll find that they would. Well, I did it with NTL broadband last year to take advantage of a new customer offer. I cancelled my contract and took it out again in the same phone call. Technically you would be a new customer so im sure it would work.

I thnk tht thy wld do it bcs tht wld mn thy wld ls cstmr. rckn thy wld dfntly d t fr 49 qd. ts wrth skng nywy. Know what im saying?

Many apologies folks !!! The title of my thread was misleading. What I meant was I am an exsisting sky customer (Not sky+ customer !) and I wanted to upgrade to having SKY+ (without having to pay for installation, £10 subscription, and mutiroom which I have no need for. I was only on the £22 family package and so to get SKY+ for £65 I had to take a premium channel with the family package. This bumps it up to £34 (but I would have had to pay £10 p/m SKY+ subscription), so it equals out.

Hope this makes more sense !

ps : No you can`t cancel and reconnect for the £49 due to the fact that SKY have all your details on record (name, address tel no etc etc .) If you try and reconnect in a different name, they know its the same address. The only way you can do it is to move house (This may be a bit extreme for some of you ?).

Not being funny, but how exactly do you know this? Like I said, I did exactly the same thing with NTL and I cant see their systems being hugely different.

Maybe they are, but has anyone actually tried it?

I ordered sky+ last night.......

http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=113&Thread=499588&Type=1

The gist of that post was that as an exisitng customer, you are entitled to a £49 sky+ box as long as you take multiroom and are outside the intial 12 month contract. I have 2 sky+ boxes being installed for £98 next thursday and can`t wait!
