So do these come with some sort of `base station` that you plug into the headphone socket and switch on and the sound is sent wirelessly?

no. no base station but used bluetooth to send music or other audio to the earphones. Think bluetooth headset but with a high quality stereo earphone/headphone replacing the normal monoaurial earpeice.

Right. Apparently your phone needs to support A2DP to listen to music with these earphones; the basic making/receiving calls should be okay with any bluetooth phone.

oh dear...my phone isn`t on that list. :(
Mine is a RAZR V3i
Motorola`s web site lists a pair of their own bluetooth headphones as an accessory for the V3i, so I`ll just have to hope that the Sony`s will work with my mobile. If not, I'll sell them on E-Bay
Will post back when I get them as to weather they work or not

Quote:

perhaps Motorola use a propriatory technology to deliver audio, or maybe it`ll deliver music but not full high quality stereo (it seems to me that A2DP headsets decode MP3 etc which means the phone can send compressed audio via bluetooth, without A2DP the audio has to be decompressed first meaning it`s more limited by the bluetooth bandwith).

bit more info on A2DP from bluetooth.combluetooth.com

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
A2DP describes how stereo quality audio can be streamed from a media source to a sink. The profile defines two roles of an audio source and sink. A typical usage scenario can be considered as the "walkman" class of media player. The audio source would be the music player and the audio sink is the wireless headset. A2DP defines the protocols and procedures that realize distribution of audio content of high-quality in mono or stereo on ACL channels. The term "advanced audio", therefore, should be distinguished from "Bluetooth audio", which indicates distribution of narrow band voice on SCO channels as defined in the baseband specification.

This profile relies on GAVDP. It includes mandatory support for low complexity subband codec (SBC) and supports optionally MPEG-1,2 Audio, MPEG-2,4 AAC and ATRAC.

The audio data is compressed in a proper format for efficient use of the limited bandwidth. Surround sound distribution is not included in the scope of this profile.

just phoned & cancelled my order.
Not much point in buying them If I can`t use them.
Thinking about buying the Skullcandy Hesh headphones instead, if i can find a mini USB to 3.5mm headphone adapter that works- bought 3 different ones from e-bay & none have worked. Not having much luck so far……
