That`s an amazing spec for the money. Blu-ray and HD-DVD and a E6750 processor too.

I guess the (combo?) Blu-ray and HD-DVD drive is the selling point here - Aldi`s Medion PCs tend to have the "kitchen sink" thrown in them :) You can, of course, get quad core base units for 500-600 quid nowadays (e.g. Mesh Computers and CCL Computers).

I personally would far rather have a quad core processor and an extra or larger hard drive than a dual core processor and a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive any day (optical media is on its way out - flash and hard drives are the clear future).

Interesting. As technology progresses, it`s just pushed on us as though we need it. eg there are very few apps that truly take advantage of two processors - and almost none that take advantage of 4... There are far more people ho would get use out of the blu-ray/hd-dvd drive than a different processor and the 6750 is a great processor anyway..

I really need the ability to take screen caps from BD and HD DVD, but I don`t really have a spare £600 at the moment :( That said, the combo drive on its own costs almost £500 on Amazon so it`s a good price.!

You can plug the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive into a PC and use it as a USB drive and that `only` costs a ton.

Yeah, I need BD and a new PC first though ;) I looked at the specs for high-def playback and cried. My poor little Athlon XP systems are showing their age.
