Is it worth waiting for the "extended cut" of LOTR - what extra scenes are included!?
Hi there - I`m wondering whether to buy the new Lord Of The Rings 2-disc DVD, or wait for the 4-disc version in November.
I`m not that bothered about the extra extras (one disc is enough!), but was just wondering what extended/deleted scenes will be included in the main film? Are an extra 30-40mins (that were cut after all!) going to be worth it in a film already lasting 3 hours?!
Also - even with the extra scenes, the film will still be quite a few minutes under 4 hours: why on middle earth will it be spread over 2 discs? Surely it could still fit on 1 disc!? (duel layered, 4 hours)
CHEERS!

It couldn`t be fitted on 1 disc without compromising picture quality (most companies avoid putting over 3 and half hours on a dvd, especially with visually intense films with lots of detail and action because thats the first they that suffers), so they split it and because they then had loads of addition space they added the DTS track,

Thanks for that - will it have a commentary track too? Does anybody know what the extra scenes will be?!
CHEERS!

Plus in this month`s Empire there`s a bit covering the extended version - only a column next to the breakdown of the Two Towers trailer).

I remember reading that some of the scenes will be:
1. A longer introduction to the history of middle earth by Bilbo
2. A proper intro to Samwise Gamgee actually showing him doing some gardening!!!
3. The Hobbits witnessing Elves on the road to Bree.
4. Extended footage of the Prancing Pony at Bree (including some singing)
5. Aragorn visiting the grave of his mother
6. Extended scenes of the departure from Rivendell
7. Footage of the fair lady Galadriel handing out her `gifts` to the fellowship (which play an important part later in the trilogy)
8. Extended footage of the battle at Amon Hen
There are some others but I can`t remember what they are. I think the extended cut is definately worth waiting for, if you get the 2 disc version available now, you just wont have the complete film! I`m certainly waiting.

Should be worth pointing out that the version of the film on the 2 disc version is as Peter Jackson wanted it to be released so in effect this is "The Director`s Cut". The extended version being released in November may have scenes added back into it but it does not mean that this is the full film, it is just an extended cut of the actual film.
