How to take screenshots from DVDs on my PC?

erlryd (Competent) posted this on Friday, 23rd August 2002, 23:44

I usually don`t watch DVD`s on my computer but I was writing a review the other day and thought it might be a good thing to have some screenshots in there
How do I take a screenshot from a DVD on a computer?
Will I have to get some new software for this or is this something all software players are capable of?
Right now I`m using software called winDVD on my pc (yeah I know its probably crap but it came free with my PC.) Sorry if this is a stoopid question but after all I am just a DVD buff, computer software is not my forte.

Thanks

Quote of the day:
Mr. Horse:, (to Ren and Stimpy): "Alright, so I made a mistake! Can`t a man start over?
Do I have to keep on paying? Huh?! Maybe I should make another mistake? Maybe two more?!!", while the walrus whispers a poignant plea: "Call the police!".

I can`t vouch for other DVD media players but I think that you can take ,and save, a snapshot of the movie when viewed on the PC using Intervideo Windvd. To take the snapshot you select Expanded view by selecting the Right arrow in the control panel of the player. This opens up a panel that has a number of options on it,as said one of them being snapshot.HTH

On windvd you can pres the "p" key(dont hold it though) at the point you want to take a screenshot. These pics will then be kept in a folder called capture in the windvd folder on your hardrive.Try it its a snip.

or the print screen button on your keyboard works, it saves it to the clipboard then just open up paint and press control+v this is helpful if the captures are of low resolution using the inbuilt function of the DVD software.
