Wallace and Gromit No Show?

Mark Oates (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 5th December 2000, 18:26

Has anybody got the new R2 Wallace and Gromit disk? I`ve got a Grundig 210A which up to date has played any disk I care to throw at it, and today it`s met its match with the W&G disk. You put it in, it stops and locks up all the controls except eject. Aaarg!

Home Cinema online has just released a press statement from Grundig who are currently looking into the Gladiator problem, I wonder if they know about W&G?

I`m reserving my judgement until I know it`s not a case of a single dud disk I`ve got. I`ll be posting it back to Streets on Thursday for replacement, so we`ll just have to see. Mind you, I was looking forward to W&G for Chrimbo.

Aye, Christmas isn`t the same without a nice bit of Wensleydale...

Hay! You! Get off me cheese!

I`ve just bought W&G from Amazon and it doesn`t play on my Samsung 807 (it automatically ejects a few seconds after I put it in!), but it plays fine on a friend`s Philips player, so it doesn`t look like the disc is faulty. The back of the disc packaging states that the disc is suitable for r2 and r4, so this might be something to do with the problem.

Just had this disc for christmas and when I put it in my Hitachi 305 it says that it cannot play disc and will not go any further.
I believe that the guts of my hitachi are the saem as the new samsung, which would explain why this disc won`t play on either.
Has anybody looked in to this any further, or have you all just changed the disc for another film?

W+G won`t play on my Hitachi 305 either. It scans the disk for a few seconds and then rejects it with the message "cannot play this disk".

DVD times bug report section says that the BBC will be issuing a "corrected" disc in January. People who have bought discs that won`t play can obtain replacements.

I`ve just spoken to a chap on the BBC Multimedia Help line and they are aware that the W+G DVD does not work with some DVD players incl Hitachi 305 and Samsung players. He was not aware however of any definite plans to issue a replacement disc and suggested returning the disc for a refund.

Sounds like the Beeb have the same attitude to their customers as Disney, then.

Anyone feel like reporting them to "Watchdog" :)))
