Monsters Inc - Region 2/4 not 4:3

Bunnster (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 4th September 2002, 11:29

On dvdcompare it stated all regions had 1.85 and 4:3 screen versions, i.e. two versions, I want the 2 disc version but need 4:3 as one of our tvs is small that my kids uses, so both aspects would be good.

Anyone clarify, is it that Region 1 is both screen ratios, but 2 and 4 are just 1:1.85???

Thanks

Iv`e got the region 1 and can tell you it is only 1:85 not 4:3 as stated on websites. I thought both versions would be included as play had stated in the extras, Sadly not.

play are selling region 2 "Monsters Inc Collectors Edition (2 discs)" and Region1 "Monsters Inc (2 discs)"

Do they have the same content? If not, what`s the differences ?

Apparently R1 has both widescreen and 4:3 formats on the discs, according to both Play.com and Movietyme. R2 has a DTS soundtrack and the widescreen version, as well as the same extras. No 4:3 version though. There is a R2 Family edition which has the movie in 4:3 format but only a couple of extras and is only £3 cheaper so I would avoid this one.

Also Mikes New Car is available at http:\\www.apple.com under the trailers section for previewing.

I`ve just bought reg 2, two disc collectors edition and inside I got a folds out leaflet guide to special fetures, and on this it clearly states
Disc 1 features and technical spec

"Choice of viewing presentation"

-Fullscreen vertion of film(1.33.1) specially reframed for standard tv

-Widesreen version of the film(1.85.1) enhanced for 16x9tv origanal theatrical ratio.
I can`t find 4.3 version anywhere ????

4 divided by 3 = 1.33 so that`s your 4:3 version

I watched the Collectors Edition last week on a 4:3 TV and a Sony 725 dvd player. When the film started it defaulted to 4:3. in order to change the view to widescreen I changed the screen settings on the dvd player from 4:3 to 4:3 letterbox. Maybe you can do something similar in reverse. This may not be the most user friendly way but it does enable you to watch in either format.
