"Pearl Harbor Ultimate Edition" Region 2 or "Vista Series Directors Cut" Region 1 Help?

Vittellus (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 11th November 2002, 21:18

Please can anyone advise me as to which region DVD box set I should buy as I`m very much interested in getting Pearl Harbour Ultimate Edition DVD set in region 2. I have already read a lot about the Region 1 Vista Series - Directors Cut but don`t know much about the recently released Ultimate edition, is this also a Directors Cut like the Region 1 version! Please can anyone out there advise me.

many thanks

The R2 version is the director`s cut, presented in a 3-disc boxset, with new extra features (as opposed to the original R2 release). I think the R2 version might have a bit more since it is newer than R1, but don`t quote me...

With the region 1 edition the film is spread over 2 discs as it has a DTS track.2 discs gives more space so less compression so better quality but u do have to change the discs half way through. There is then 2 discs if extras of which I would imagine most if not all are the same. It also comes in a much nicer fold out digi pack with war time poscards and so on. End of the day its your choice - -can u b assed flipping discs and r u assed with dts - if so get the region 1.If not get the region 2 in the Sainsburys offer b4 it ends for £12.50.

I`ve heard that the R2 version "Ultimate Edition" is not the Director`s Cut at all, it is the Theatrical Cut again and BV have just packaged it with loads more extras which is what they should have done the first time. Certainly the film is still a 12 certificate and I am quite sure that the Director`s Cut would have to be given a 15 in this country which of course is totally against BBFC policy as the same film can not be available in two forms with a different certificate.

Been confirmed by someone on the R2 DVD Project that the Ultimate Edition of Pearl Harbor released in this country is in fact the Theatrical Version and not the Director`s Cut that was released in R1. So what a rip off.
