Page 1 of working in the dvd industry

anyone have any idea on getting work in the dvd industry?
cos im really interested in all very much in the whole put the disc together process anyone have any ideas?

Ok, just that usually these things can help:

What age are you?
Do you have any relevant qualifications (in your opinion)?
What is your past work experience?
blah
blah
blah....

A good thing is to ask random people on the street. You`ll get some great reactions.

And by the way, if you get into pressing DVD`s, give us a call ;-)
I`m currently making films and will be a rich hack director in about 10 years (when I`m about 30). I`ll make crap films for the masses. Actually, I take that all back, I`ll make brilliant films that nobody will see.

Yeah, if you are already experienced in at least some aspect of film, that should help, but if you actually make them from start to finish then thats excellent.

I`m currently doing stuff for college work. I`ve got to do a film no longer than 3 minutes long (its really hard) based on an "artist". Obviously I`m not going to do Salvador Dali, as I am hopeless at art, so I picked Sam Raimi and basically writing my own story and filming it in his style. I`ve already had a month to do it, but I couldn`t decide on a director so I`m rushing it. I`m writing the treatment and doing the storyboards right now. But I still have to film it and edit it all together by the 29th November. Serves me right for taking so long.

What sort of stuff do you do?

Of course I will. NTSC may be inferior to PAL, but R1 is where the money is to be made. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

For a start move to London go to Soho and start in a post production house as a runner earning a pittance, make sure it`s one with a DVD-Authoring department, you could also check 3D places and start the same way. Then spend all your spare time impressing the head of the DVD department. Also a lot of places do use photoshop for menus so get hold of it and learn it, it will help even in terms of using layers and how a page is layed out. Or if it`s the authoring you are interested in i.e the picture and sound quality get a job as a tape operator after running and go from there.

By the way if you are at college GET WORK EXPERIENCE that will get you a job, a piece of paper at the end of your course won`t.

yeah thats all sounds good im pretty good with photoshop been using it for years the only problem is my qualifications the only ones i`ve got is a gnvq in IT a GNVQ in Media and an A Level in film studies so it`s gonna be hard to find somewhere that would take me on cos i`ve got no degrees or anything i was thinking about writing to a few company`s do you think this is a good idea and does anybody no of any good places to start with?

As for film making i have made a few shorts and my latest is the story of a guy who works in a record store it`s hopefully it`s gonna be full length and i found someone with alot of equipment i can use and i`ve also got a record store to film it in so thats good the only problem im finding at the moment while writing the script is that its to simmilar to clerks cos thats one of my fave films. and it`s annoying me cos i dont want to make another clerks it`s just it`s hard to make a black and white comedy about a guy who works in a shop to not be like clerks but ive thrown a few twists in there so hopefully it will turn out all right.
