Monsters Inc (picture ratio)

dsm (Competent) posted this on Friday, 3rd January 2003, 16:33

I bought Monsters Inc (familty edition) unaware that the collectors edition has a 1:85:1 picture ratio. Am I missing out on the "big" picture? is it worth going out and buying the widescreen version?

Erm.. 1.85:1 is widescreen.
4:3 is `normal` tv.
There is an even wider screen - 2.35:1 which is becoming more and more popular esc. on more`epic` films - Lord of The Rings, Attack of the Clones etc. With this ratio, you will have black bars at the top and bottom, even on a widescreen tele.

It would be worth buying the collector`s edition for all the added features, plus it also has a DTS track.

Like the man says, 1.85:1 is widescreen. The only film Pixar have ever made in 2.35:1 is `A Bug`s Life`

Erm.. I think the original poster was saying he bought the Family Edition, not realising that the slightly more expensive CE was in widescreen. (?weren`t you?)

I`d definitely trade up to the Collectors` Edition, it`s worth it for the extras too!

Thanks Mavrik! You`re right - I bought the "normal" version not realising the difference at the time. It sounds as if the Collectors Edition is worth it - for the extras if nothing else.

Thanks again.

No probs ;)

I think in most Hight Street stores there`s only a £2/3 difference between the Family Edition and the CE. The great thing about it is that there are plenty of extras for the kids, and loads of stuff to keep big kids happy too!
