What is the definitive Jurassic Park?

Cerbera (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 7th September 2003, 15:36

Just wondered what is considered to be the definitive version of Jurassic Park.....or are there any plans to release a Special Edition release?

Once considered THE reference / demo film due to the awesome T-Rex scenes, I still only own it on Laserdisc and wondered what DVD is or will be the best one to own. There was some bebate over whether the Dolby Digital version was actually better than the original DTS version. I understand there were problems with the original DTS version and that another was released to fix this?

With all the enhanced, Director`s Cut, Special and Superbit re-re-releases going on, it seems incredible that one of the all time grgeat Home Theatre movies hasn`t seen one too.

Anyone offer any opinions?

I would liked to have asked this questionn about Gladiator ( some of the deleted stuff should never have been took out)

Jurassic Park is a film that I like alot, the only trouble with it is I get the impression that the making of the film was very rushed and as got some unforgivable bodges in.

I doubt if there is anything extra they could add to the actual film in way of scences, it just seemed a Action/Cut use it film to me and was on a tight deadline and budget, as for sound I coudn`t comment only that the three times I watched it in the cinema I was well impressed.

I bought the region 3 version for less than a fiver from CD wow last Christmas sale, and the picture is excellent, I dont know what the sound version is on it ( My DVD`S are still boxed after house move) but sounded good on my stereo TV.

I could be wrong and I hope I am as it does deserve better treatment then it originaly got, but was the word DVD or VHS in the directors minds back in 1993 ?

PS I thought J2 was pap but I liked J3.

Cerbera: I have Jp on Ld and am happy with it and will stick to it rather than buy it again on dvd. Mines the standard Pal release in widescreen. Does look good on my 44" My m8s cant tell the difference between ld and dvd anyway lol. jp2 is ntsc with dts and jp3 I have is Uk dvd. It doesnt bother me that all 3 are not on the same format. When it comes to a directors cut I think there will be one as there are some parts that you see in the film that were badly edited (veloseraptor in control room near end when sam neil has gun...you dont see the gun jam but next shot its on the table with cartridges jammed and the sound goes out of sync) Maybe sometime eh? Stick with the old trusty Ld mate Ld still lives..............just ;)
