Buffy the Vampire Slayer - worth getting?

RWB (Elite) posted this on Friday, 27th February 2004, 21:44

I used to own season one on DVD, then sold it when I realised that it was too expensive to get all of the boxsets...now I may be reconsidering.

I recently got The Best of Buffy the Vampire Slayer disc, with 4 episodes (Becoming - Part I, Graduation Day - Part II, Hush and The Gift) and am liking it so far, but some episodes/moments can be a little too cheesy and perhaps even kid-friendly.

Should I go for it on DVD, or will something like The X-Files suit my need for darker, sci-fi/fantasy entertainment better?

I think we have had a similar discussion before back with "Richard Booth" 8) Yes they are definetly worth getting. The whole 7 seasons are all excellent on the whole although individual episodes do vary in quality. X files is also good but after a few seasons it goes kinda s*** IMHO. Also you might wanna check out dark angel and alias.

If I was to go for The X-Files, which season should I stop at?

Forget that s***e, go and buy Spaced from Play.com. Both seasons are only £6.99. That`s £13.98 total. It`s a brilliant series and an essential DVD to any film fan.

Also, it`s a fooking BARGAIN!!!!

If you`re going for Buffy, the first three seasons are a worthwhile buy. After that they started to go downhill, they are watchable but not really re-watchable.

The X-Files is generally better all round, especially if you`re not too keen on kid-friendly. Go for seasons 1-5, then the film. After that you should be able make your own mind up.

I reviewed a `Best of` disc here - now think I will go for The X-Files.

I wouldn`t buy any of them. I`d buy some decent porn if I were you Rik. :D

Or like chewie says, buy Spaced on DVD. Or Alan Partridge. :D

Or wait until 26 April when "The Day Today" is released - including Alan Partridge`s early outings, the brilliant Chris Morris, and the Currency Susan. Or buy some porn.
