Can someone tell me what makes a Criterion title so expensive? I would expect the best transfer I have ever seen for the kind of money they charge, which by the way is surely wasted if it`s a NTSC format?
Cheers,
Hey, its up to them how much they charge. Their target market is collectors and hardcore film fans so they charge what they know they will get. They got to pay for all of the extras they put on.
All their titles have been out already, and can be bought cheaper without all the funky extras.
lf people think the price is too high, choose the cheap version. Simple as that!
Log onto the Criterion website. I think www.criterion.com will point you in the right direction, but I couldn`t tell you that for certain at the moment. They do go into detail about the processes that they go through when making a Criterion disk... and its a very labourious and time consuming process.
Gilesy.
The reason Criterion discs cost so much is because they have to pay out a lot of money to buy the rights to all the film and features that go on a disc from the studio that originally made the film.

ok, bur is the transfer any better than the cheaper standard version, or is it just about the extras?

No. its not about the extras, as some of the discs come with f*** all on them.
They give the films as best a transfer as it can get, and a bit more.

l got ARMAGEDDON, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and now THE ROCK. These ones DO have a lot of extras. Well worth the extra £!
