Page 1 of Buying Region 1 DVD`s
DVDs & Films Forum
Hi there, I have had a multiregion DVD player for about 6 years and have yet to buy a region 1 disc. I was after buying some dvds that you can`t get over here and have decided to go for either playusa or loaded247. The question is that is there anyone who can tell me what these compaines are like, are they reliable and how much would I have to pay to import any DVD`s ordered.
Thanks.
At long as your order comes to £18 then you won`t have to pay anything extra for customs.
Play and PlayUSA are very reliable.
Nowadays I buy most of my R1 DVDs from Marketplace sellers on Amazon.co.uk. You have to pay postage no matter what (£1.20) but there are sellers who are incredibly cheap and I`ve never had a problem in many many transactions.

I`d agree with the person above :)
I`ve use Amazon market place and you get a good deal on imports ie Dead Like Me S2 for under £18 inc postage.

I use PLAYUSA for many items under £18 and they are good.
Amazon and their marketplace are cheap, but keeping track of order status is not as easy as on PLAY.
It isn`t on DVD IMPORT,but with many titles at ridiculously low prices(Star trek Nemesis 2 disc under £7,War of the Worlds-new 1953 version under £6) they are very good.As they use inaccurate valuations on their packages, they are ideal for higher priced box sets getting by with no customs
RE: Buying Region 1 DVD`s
What about loaded247.com, are they reliable?
Correct me if I`m wrong but isn`t Play based in the channel islands, and because they send their region 1 discs from there the dreaded £18 customs limit is avoided?

Play is based in the Channel Islands, but AFAIK they ship R1 discs from Canada, so the customs limit isn`t guaranteed avoided.
Loaded 247 is an excellent company who can guarantee no Customs problems as they import the discs for you. Anything over £18 I almost always source from them. You should be aware that unlike Play or some other firms, you can`t cancel orders with Loaded readily as you have entered into a slightly more complex sales contract.
Neither company will accept RCE discs returned because they`re incompatible with your kit, so make sure first.

My Column Isn`t Dead, It`s In Hiding Here
I`ve been buying from both Play and Loaded for years. Never had any problems with either.
Play ships from the Channel Islands I think, and Loaded ship from inside the UK - so no customs worries.
I`ve only ever had one DVD go missing from Play, and they sent a replacement straight away (twas only a £5 sale jobby anyway). Never had an issue from Loaded.
Do Loaded247 take the money from your account straight away or when the item is shipped? It appears that they take the money when you place the order and then keep it in a `reserve` account until the item is dispatched - is this about right? :/
BTW, why is this not in the Retailer Reviews forum?
