Walk The Line (Johnny Cash biopic) - Magnificent!!

I went along to see this movie tonight and was blown away by it!! I think we may already have a contender for film of the year!! The film ran at a great pace with important plot threds cleverly implemented. The narrative was really tight and never dragged. Peter Jackson please take note... The film was very emotive and I found I could really connect with the characters something which other biopics such as Ray failed to do. The music was fantastic and I could feel myself tapping away in my chair as the tunes rang out. The singing by both lead actors was surprisingly good. Both Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon were amazing. Joaquin Phoenix had Johnny Cash nailed to a tee and you can tell so much time had been spent studying the man himself. He was however upstaged by the phenomenal Reese Witherspoon!!! This is by far her best performance to date and for me deserves an Oscar.

U liked it then? :D

Nice one.I`ve been disappointed with about a dozen recent films in a row so hopefully this will buck that trend.

The trouble with all these "biopics" is: they may be great movies, but if you have absolutely no interest in the person or their life, then you probably won`t bother watching them.

I mean, I have absolutely no interest in the life or career of Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Bobby Darin et al, so just won`t be seeing them. :)

I partly agree with what Hulk says, as what I know about Johnny Cash wouldn`t fill the back of a first class stamp. I knew a bit about Ray Charles and really enjoyed Ray, didn`t know anything about Jake La Motta the first time I saw Raging Bull but still thought (and still do) it was a masterpiece, all I know about Bobby Darin is that he sang `Beyond the Sea` and I`m not really interested in knowing more about him. I know a lot about Muhammad Ali so found Michael Mann`s biopic of him to be very superficial.
The life of Ghandi, although important, isn`t particularly interesting (to me anyway) and neither is the film.

I think, that as far as biopics are concerned, it comes down to the basics of a good film is a good film and a bad film is a bad film and a good biopic should do its` subject justice (to those who know about him/her) or make the uninitiated want to find out more when they leave the cinema/when the DVD finishes.

I agree, a great film with two lead performances both deserving the Oscar for best Actor/Actress (are we allowed to say Actress these days)

I think it`s important in biopics to allow the audience who know little of the person to be able to `connect` with him/her. I knew little of Ray Charles or Johnny Cash, but the difference is at the end I still couldn`t care less about Ray and after Walk The Line I feel compelled to learn more about Johnny Cash and his music..
