Don`t know whether this is the right place or not...here come the question anyway.
I have purchased a DVD ROM Drive for my PC and want to make it region free. I`ve downloaded a couple zip files, supposed to be some firmware files.
What shall I do next? There weren`t much instruction (readme file) attached to it.
The DVD Drive is Sony DDU1621
Many thanks
Did you get an MPEG-2 card with the DVD-ROM drive?
RE: DVD-ROM Drive Firmware
Nope...why? Does that matter?
No. I am running a Sony DVD-ROM with a MPEG-2 card and I use particular software to switch the region code.
It won`t work with software operated DVD-ROM`s.
RE: DVD-ROM Drive Firmware
Oh...I see! Just checked my graphic card and it`s indeed a MPEG-2 card.
May I ask which particular software do you use to switch the region code and how to do it? I hope it`s freeware!
Many thanks in advance
You`ll need to flash the bios of the DVD rom with the firmware you downloaded, try here http://www.firmware.fr.st/ and make sure you have the *exact* firmware for your drive. I have done it myself on three drives without problem but it could be a risky procedure, I can`t give exact details on how it is done because it varies from drive to drive but it usually involves working in Dos.
If you are using a software player like Power DVD / WinDVD you`ll also need DVD Genie http://www.inmatrix.com to change the region of your player (freeware).
"Zone Selector" is freeware, you select the zone before you start (any number of times). Awesome :D

Or the home site

Or do a web search for Zone Selector.
