How far into "Heat" is the famous shootout?

JamieM (Competent) posted this on Monday, 21st August 2006, 15:25

"Heat" is on BBC1 tonight at 22.35. I was wondering if anyone knew approximately how far into the movie the famous shootout scene takes place? I`m unfortunately unable to watch the entire movie, but want to try and catch that amazingly realistic scene with my surround system turned up LOUD! Knowing when it will be will obviously help!

Cheers, Jme

If I remember, it`s about 100 minutes in, maybe more. Brilliant film though, you should catch it all.

Oh, I have seen it all, quite a few times (though the movie`s a bit lengthy for my liking). I managed to see it in the cinema when released (I has just turned 15 at the right time, if memory serves me correct), and was blown away by the realism of that scene. Just stunning. I`m wanting to catch that particular scene out of sheer curiosity - to see what it`s like on my newly acquired surround system (obviously not anywhere near as good as 5.1 DD/DTS, but pro-logic should make a good job of it surely?).

So anyway, back to the point, I`m figuring the shootout is after halfway through then?

Cheers,
Jme

LA Takedown, a tv movie also made by Mann in 1989 I think. So it`s his own remake.

LA Takedown, the `protoype` for Heat, is (or was) available on DVD; and IMHO is just as good a film. Heat wasn`t an exact scene-by-scene remake, but more of an extended version with extra characters and sub-plots - the story rather sprawls when compared to the much tighter screenplay of LA Takedown. The biggest difference is the ending. The shoot-out sequence in LA Takedown is just as exciting and realistic too!
