Page 1 of Saw 3 -SPOILERS WITHIN
DVDs & Films Forum
Just got back from watching this, and while it was a little mish-mash in places, it wasnt as bad as I was expecting.
To be honest, they really cranked up the gore factor, and including far more `wincing` moments and that was about the biggest saving grace.
As with the previous Saw movies, you get a twist, and because of the previous you are kept guessing all the way. The one thing that disappointed me the most was SPOILER:
that the tests, were the subplot of the film rather than the main point, which diluted the power of the test (it was pretty weak anyway)
I have no doubts that there will be another SPOILER:
even though jigsaw actually dies in this one because they tried to include items in this film that were supposed to act as a revelation. Instead, they acted as filler.
I thought it was nowhere near as good as the other 2 - the plot was a mess, the acting was awful, and I saw the twist coming a mile off which I didn`t with the others.
It was ok, and is truely disgusting in a number of places, I just thought the rest of the series was alot more clever and had a better story - this one seemed to be trying to fit 2 stories into 1 film, plus a load of flashbacks which just made it even less structured.
3 / 10 from me

My review:
Ok i`m a bit annoyed, i just wrote this really good, long review for this & i just deleted the whole blumin` thing by accident!! So this review isn`t going to be too long, i can`t be bothered now.
IMO 1st 2 Saw movies were (1 more than 2) brilliant. Both had excellent twists & contain some of the (and THE) most horrific scenes in cinema ever.
This 3rd installment is a bit of a letdown. It starts very promisingly with a very hard to watch scene with Donnie Wahlberg trying to break free from his shackles. For a good few minutes it was teeth jarring. But after that it`s just not gripping like the 1st or 2nd film. It hasn`t got that, what the French call "I dont know what". There is an extremely (ahem) killer "twist" after quite a while. And caused me to involentarily blink it was really gross.
Jigsaw is brilliantly acted by Tobin Bell. He even make`s you feel some sympathy for him (well till the very end). All the main characters are well acted. & the "story" is well written, it`s just not on a par with the 1st 2.
Oh yes, you may have heard about people apparently fainting & having to be carried out of screenings of this. I`m sorry, but those people are either idiots (for seeing it in the 1st place) or wooses. Its called SAW for god sake, this ent a bloody PG13 horror. This is your fall on gruesome-fest. No wimps see this (although my mum loves all 3 Saws, read into that what you will).
7/10
You say psycho like its a bad thing
`Saw` it last night. `Saw` the twist coming a mile away (as I did with the second one). Very gory though. Makes Hostel look tame (which is was, really).

Which twist are you referring to? There are a couple.
SPOILER:
The twist i was reffering to was when the guy literally gets twisted. Even his head! Proper ouch!

I forgot to mention this. But when i saw Saw III, they didn`t turn the lights fully off like they usually do. Did anyone else have this??

I thought it was pretty crap. Full kudos for the gore though, really out-did themselves.
Not sure what I winced at most:
SPOILER:
the breaking your own ankle bit, having your rib cage ripped out or having all your limbs twisted till your bones snap... and then twisted some more
The reason I like the first Saw flick is that the villain is unexpected and it works. It has a good script and some great scenes (despite dodgy acting). Saw 2 was just more death for the sake of it, but did continue the trend of cringe-worthy gore. Saw 3 does that too, but not much else. As soon as it started to concentrate on the villain, these films lose their appeal.

gf and I saw it last night and enjoyed it. neither of us the plot twists comingSPOILER:
(i.e. them being husband and wife, or that it wasn`t the doctor being tested)
, does that make us thick? ;)
Didn`t think it was as quite as good as the other 2, but worth seeing IMHO for fans of the other 2. I gave Saw and Saw II 8/10, so I`ll give this one 7/10.

I think the twists in this were as good as in Saw 2, but were easier to guess because the film was know where near as engaging. But when im watching a film i really like, i don`t sit there trying to guess whats going to happen. I just sit and enjoy.
I can`t remember if i mentioned this, but did anyone else`s cinema have the lights not as off as they usually do?? They only dimmed half way. I don`t think that helped in the mood/atmosphere.
SPOILER:
The best wincing bits was the guy being literally twisted. Donnie smashing his foot in was just plain "ouch"!
