Name the film

Colleen Hawkins (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 13th December 2006, 02:55

Well, I`ve just spent an hour trying to find a film, but to no avail. Can any brain-boxes out there in cyberland put me out of my misery? It`s a French language (I think) film about a young man who`s brought up as a girl by his mother (she wants to keep him from being corrupted by nasty, dirty-minded boys). Because he never gets to see or know about the physical differences between boys and girls, he never realises he`s male. He lives as and believes himself to be a woman, works as a teacher and works in close proximity with a female teacher with whom he falls in love. They start an affair and he realises he`s male. Their affair is revealed when some of their pupils overhear them making love and a dreadful scandal ensues. Because his birth certificate says female, he has to legally prove his correct gender, start living as a man and try to win back the woman he loves. It has a tragic ending (I know he doesn`t get the girl and I think he commits suicide in despair). I vaguely remember it being based on an actual case, but I`m not 100% sure about that. I saw it on Channel 4 a while back (could`ve been as long as ten years ago) and I can`t remember the title for the life of me. I keep thinking that the word "butterfly" is in their somewhere, but that`s by no means certain (my memory is creaky and unreliable at the best of times). Any bells ringing out there?

No, your thinking of Weekend at Bernies 3 that never got made due to budget costs spiralling past £200million.

Can`t help on the question myself :¦

I couldn`t see it amongst all that lot, although it did remind me of a number of films that I wouldn`t mind seeing again. Thanks for trying Jackal. A lot more helpful than the "Weekend aux Bernies" suggestion guys!

You have a sassy lesbian robot ninja on the tip of your tounge? You must have a very strong tounge...lol

Nope, it`s not Ma Vie En Rose. But a good suggestion.
