Hi there Ive been told region 4(PAL)-Australian DVDs would play on a standard region two DVD player,Ive ordered Swordfish R4 for my girlfriends son-hes getting a DVD player for christmas- thinking that the DVD would work(its not arrived yet so I cant test it)..now Ive tested Jurrasic Park(R4) and Spinal tap(R4) on my brothers playstation 2..Jurassic works(although it does have green screen due to the console) but when I load Spinal it says ``cannot play due to regional differences``...is swordfish gonna work?

Sorry to tell you mate but only Fox DVDs from R4 play on R2 players as their discs are dual encoded. Swordfish is from Warner and thus is R4 only. To get it to work you need to crack your DVD player - what player is it?

Nesbitt, whoever told you that wants shooting (or at least to be forced to pay for your DVDs, or to get the player modded)! The whole point of the regional coding system was to make discs and players from different regions incompatible. A minority of Aussie discs are dual coded for both R2 *and* R4 (notably those from Fox and Warner), but the vast majority are R4 only and will therefore not work in a R2 player. Swordfish R4 is a Village Roadshow title (not Warner), so it only has R4 coding. Let`s hope your girlfriend`s son is getting a player that can be remote hacked.

If you want to know if a particular Australian disc has R2 coding, check out http://www.michaeldvd.com.au - each review on that site will tell you the region coding of the disc.

Could try that. It works for the bush 2002 and the bush 2004. Why I think it should work for the 2008. Nothing to lose.
