Page 1 of THIRTEEN DAYS - R2 DVD Problems
DVDs & Films Forum
Hi, Have just excitedly opened my R2 Thirteen Days DVD and looked longingly at the list of special features only to find that when I put it in the machine it just repeats the Touchstone Home Video logo again and agian, going from chapter 1 to chapter 38 and back again, nathing seems to work.
My machine is generally very good, coped well with the usual difficult ones, Fight Club, Matrix, TOy Story etc etc, any ideas or have I got a faulty disc?
I would say immediately that you have a faulty disc. Get it sorted ASAP.

RE: THIRTEEN DAYS - R2 DVD Problems
Hi
I am glad I am not the only person with this problem, I brought this film from ASDA (as it was only £14.50) and got the same logo loop problem. I thought I had a dodgy disk so I returned it and had the disk swapped guess what, the same problem.
I am concerned that it may be a problem with my Wharfedale 750 player as the disks plays in my laptop with no problems
if anyone can come up with a fix please email me at 700atnegam[at]moc.nsm
thanks
Andy
RE: THIRTEEN DAYS - R2 DVD Problems
Here goes:
I have Wharfedale 750 last edition and no problems to date apart from Gladiator disc, which was repressed.
Same problem with Thirteen Days as earlier messages – logo repeats and repeats…….
Spoke to Buena Vista (Disney). Surprise – mainly Wharfedale responsibility (track record on Toy Story etc). Testing had shown “compatibility issues” with 750 but the disc had been released anyway. Speculated that problem due to large amount of material on disc but very clear that there is no intention of repressing the disc. Also mentioned that Wharfedale had not been totally co-operative with generally ironing out these sort of issues.
Spoke to Wharfedale helpline (NEMS?). Surprise – track record of problems with Disney discs. Disney standards apparently differ to those widely accepted with which 750 has no problem. No solution other than trying a workaround with GOTO on remote - no joy.
Conclusion – unless there is clever solution then no way to watch this title on 750. Options: upgrade DVD player now (mmm!), keep disc for future, huddle around PC monitor or, easiest, get your money back.
Cheers all the best.

RE: THIRTEEN DAYS - R2 DVD Problems
Same problem here!
"Thirteen Days" (region 2) just keeps looping the logo on my
Wharfedale 750 (the plain 750, not the S).
My player has the third generation firmware, the one with the DTS logo and LED.
I thought it was a dodgy disk at first until I tried it on other peoples players and my PC and it worked fine.
There doesn`t seem to be any work arounds and you can not break out of the loop with any of the function buttons such as `Goto` or `stop`.
Wharfedale`s help line (run by Tescos) were no help just saying it must be a compatibilty problem.
Are there any other disks that suffer from the same problem? I`m seriously tempted to change the player for an LG 4950!
Any advice?
Best,
Matt

Quick follow up to my last post.
Tried "Thirteen Days" on a friends older Wharfedale 750
and it does the same again. It just keeps looping the Touchstone
logo.
His was one of the original ones which was then upgraded with
the Tesco`s firmware to solve the Jaws problems.
We also tried the disk on a Playstation 2 which is meant to
use the same chipset as the Wharfedale and it played fine!

What was the problem with the Matrix an the other discs. My samsung 511 locks up on the Matrix. I am going with a firmware upgrade to see if it will eliminate it
RE: THIRTEEN DAYS - R2 DVD Problems
OK .No problem, the way I got 13 days to play on my second generation warfedale 750 is to ignore the remote and go to the machine itself ,as the touchstone logo finnishes its loop and the display counts down, continually press the menu button and this will take you to the main menu. This does however miss out a short video segment ,but this is only a few seconds long. Its a pain in the backside but it works. After reading other peoples tales of contacting warfedale and buena vista I dont think I will bother.
Great movie though.
