RWB (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 13th February 2002, 11:58

This is being released next month, but I want to know whether it will be cut like the one that is already out.

I don`t know if it is cut like the one that is out but it is cut. The R1 version aint though. I think this is one of them films where it was submitted to the BBFC already cut so they could get a 15 rating.

It seems stupid when the first two installments got `18` ratings (although "Die Hard 2" is a `15` on VHS) that they think they need to waste 15mins of quality celluloid just to get a kid-friendly rating.

I believe that Die Hard 3 has not been resubmitted so expect the same butchered version - the R1 SE though is also cut by a few seconds!

How butchered are we talking?
A few bits of dialogue or entire scenes?

The R2 has many minutes in total missing - the R1 has about 3 or 4 seconds missing

DVD world are advertising DH3 SE at 131 minutes. Promising huh?
Unfortunately Woolies are doing the same but promising 120 mins, just like the original disc.

Anyway, I went straight to the horses mouth and e-mailed the BBFC if they could tell me which version they have passed.

I`m not holding my breath, but if I get a reply, I`ll be sure to post it.

BAD NEWS

I got a reply from the BBFC and it`s disappointing to say the least.
This is what it said....

DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE has not been resubmitted to us for DVD release.
The DVD should therefore be identical to the previous VHS releases. The
records for these can be found on our website (www.bbfc.co.uk) using the
SEARCH facility. As you will see, all UK releases of the film have been
cut to obtain a `15` (rather than `18`) certificate. The DVD will
therefore be the usual cut version.

Gutted.
I`ll stick with the naff version without commentary rather than
shell out again

First of all they don`t bother to include it in the R2 Die Hard boxset, and the next thing those bastards get out the scissors for some obscene reason and cut some quality film. Why? What in the name of hell is the point? The extras on the Special Edition don`t seem that special, so I was contemplating on buying the older version which was £9.99 on Play (compared to the £14.99 for the SE), but to my horror when I checked the site yesterday the price had gone up £5! It seems the whole Die Hard 3 DVD is turning into a right fiasco, and it hasn`t even been released yet! The only hope we have is a Limited Edition coming out soon, with restored footage and some more extras, for an RRP of £15...it`s what we deserve!

Play have got Die Hard 3 SE on it`s own for £15.99. Is this version cut or not?

btw Play say that the R2 version is 5 minutes longer than the R1 (2 h 15 v 2h 10) so does that mean the R1 version has 5 minutes less than the upcoming R2 version?
