Page 1 of Lockout (Guy Pearce flick)

Logistically, this movie kinda sucks. Place the word `cliched` in front of the following words to sum up the movie;
Plot
Characters
vulnerable blonde female
baddies
script
Secret service assholes
rugged, wise-cracking tough-guy hero
and yet, I kinda liked it. It didn;t start well though, with quite possibly the worst cgi-laden chase scene ever portrayed in a multiplex since the keystone cops. I s**t you not, it`s hilarious.
Plot then. The president`s daughter (Maggie Grace, looking like a fembot for the first 20 minutes for some reason) is visiting MS1, an orbiting prison... in space!... she`s up there making sure the prisoners, who are constantly in cryo-stasis, aren`t being `damaged` by their incarceration. Wouldn`t you know it, the first scottish psychopath she interviews manages to get his hands on a gun and all kinds of larks and japes ensue.
Guy Pearce plays `Snow`, a loose cannon, never plays by the rules, always has a smart-ass answer for everything cop who`s just been busted for apparently shooting his partner, while retrieving a briefcase during a raid. I kinda lost track here,. and we were only 5 minutes in. Anyway, he`s in the crap, so he`s the one who`s shot into space to rescue the tree-hugging first daughter.
It`s bunkum. The poor CGI during the chase aside, it`s enjoyable enough, but releasing a film such as this in the same week as Avengers assemble doesn`t exactly fill the audience with hope for the movie`s quality. However, once you get used to every.single.line that comes out of Guy`s mouth being a witty retort or snappy comeback, it`s enjoyable enough, and at just over 90 minutes, it doesn`t outstay its welcome.
Wait for the DVD, then rent it

:-)
It came out the week before Avengers. It`s a poor version of Escape from L.A. in space, which isn`t a ringing endorsement.

I watched this last night, it was complete nonsense but I did enjoy it.
Pure popcorn movie, switch brain off, sit back & pick holes in the daft plot.
Thanks for the recommendation Pete MK

RE: Lockout (Guy Pearce flick)
I thought the chase scene in the beginning was quite possibly some of the worst CGI I`ve ever seen in a mainstream film.
They could have pretty much cut it entirely as it added nothing.
Just watched this, well say watched hasn`t really kept my interest. haven`t really enjoyed it.
BUT
SPOILER:
quite liked the mirror twist at the end of the film, shame it wasn`t used on a better film
