does that mean his old PS2 can`t play DVD`s? If so, then it`s reliability regarding playing games is probably in question too. (some PS2 titles use the DVD player tecnology to play FMV)

Is it a UK machine?

The Japanese PS2s only run DVD movies when it is installed on to the Memory card.

To my understanding, nearly ALL new PS2 games com on DVD. So NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don`t buy this machine. Its obviously broken and not even worth £1, never mind £50.

yes but if it is possible to repair it then it is still cheaper than bying one brand new.

A repair is unlikely to be economically viable though - £30 to open the machine, £50 for a new DVD drive. Maybe £20 additional costs or unexpected expenditure - you could have bought a new one for that money.

Why do you think your friend bought another one?

He is ripping you off. If you want one, just buy a brand new one. Its much less hassle.

just had a reply from sony and they have said they will replace it or fix it for £70 including post and packaging so all in all it will still have only cost me £120 and no my friend isnt ripping me off as it is still cheaper than bying a new one and it comes with a warranty from sony.

Good Luck!!!

Sony haven`t got the best reputation when it comes to "fixing" problems, especially when its not their fault.
