Some DVDs play fine on the PS2 but some jump and are black and white ,what can I do?

The Jumping & Black & White picture is the result of the disc encoding being in NTSC. All PAL films will play fine. To overcome this you just need to buy a DVD Region X from someone like www.play.com

Right answer, Lee, but wrong solution!
The solution is to get a TV which is compatible with NTSC. The Region X will get around the region coding of the discs, but it won`t make the PS2 output PAL from NTSC DVDs (that`s a completely separate issue).
