Gaming and Consoles Forum
OK, I am going to get a new console and I would like some opinions. However unlike every other post I have read comparing consoles I would only like both a positive and a negatives for each one. For example:
XBOX - Pro = dvd playback
Con = Overheating
However, obviously I am more interested in the actual gaming.
I`m not really interested in how many games the console has as there are only so many games that you can play at once. In fact to be honest I am not really interested in the PS2 as all my mates have one so I want something different.
The reason I ask is because I was going to get a Gamecube, but I am now edging towards an XBox - the new deals are very good.
Here`s a starter for 10.
GC
Pro - Some A grade titles
Con - Not an awful lot of choice at the moment
Pro - Portable
Con - No DVD (I dont know if that`s a problem in this forum though)
PS2
Pro - GTA
Con - A large amount of pants titles to sift through to find the good ones.
Xbox
Pro - Most powerful out the lot with some very shiny games
Con - Not many to choose from.
As has been said many times before... choose the console that has the most games you`ll play on it.
Cheers, I have wanted to get a gamecube for a long time but I no longer have any confidence in them. All consoles seem to have their good games and will have good games in the future, but I am not convinced that Nintendo have taken the right approach with this - thus I think they may get left behind this time.
For this reason I think that I will probably go for an xbox with the splinter cell pack. This seems like a bargain - even more so that the gamecube equivalent which includes 5 games, extra controller, and wheel.
Thanks for the advice I have managed to gather in this and the other threads.
A thing to consider also it that Microsoft has got s**t load of money to throw into developing new games, and Bill Gates does not like to loose. A thing that maybe SOny and Nintendo are not ready to do (investing a lot of money).
I bought a X-box for this xmas (for my son ...), but I tried the PS2 and found that the games take far too long to load. Talking about the graphics resolution the X-box win that. True that PS2 has more games on offer. Best thing get both or 3 if you consider the gamecube in the equation. But I think that developers will bring out a lot of great games for the X-Box.

Back again. Just to tell you I have decided (not that you probably care) on my plan of action. Decided to take the time to try out both the Xbox and Gamecube, and I absolutely loved the Gamecube. There were a couple of good games on the xbox that also looked very good (excluding halo) but nothing that felt as playable as the Nintendo titles that I tried. So seeing as I don`t need a dvd player the choice became pretty obvious.
It was nice to have to opportunity to try out both consoles - especially in the run up to Christmas where every shop is so busy.
I thoroughly recommend trying the consoles before you buy.
How novel. Picking a GAME system based on it`s games and not it`s specs or whether or not it can play DVD`s. Glad you enjoyed them - they`res some crackers to come too.
Well done.

The Playstation 2 is backwards compatible, and who`s to say the future XBOX`s won`t be aswell. Both have strong backers (Sony/Microsoft), but the computing market is what Microsoft specialising in. My moneys with the XBOX.
There are many great looking titles in the pipework for the XBOX (Playstation 2 graphics don`t even compare). Go to www.xbox.co.uk, under the heading XBOX TV. Its holds a huge selection of games and movie clips, but no indication of release dates.
I have no doubt that the xbox and playstation will continue to outsell the gamecube. However after playing the games, I think the gamecube is the right choice for me. I don`t need a dvd player, and backwards compatibilty is not an issue for me. For example surely it doesn`t matter that N64 games don`t work on the gamecube, as 99.9% of people who own N64 games will also own a N64 to play them on. To me the issue of backwards compatibilty is always more justification rather than reason.
Now all I need to do is identify the best deal for the gamecube and ensure that there is a present for myself sitting under the tree. I always buy myself the best presents!
Just like previous Nintendo consoles, they are very few decent games, and will be killed off eventually by Playstation/Xbox. The N64 on the whole was a crap machine.
The Gamecube is more of a child/family console, the Playstation/XBOX caters for the older generation.
