HOW CAN YOU POWER A PS2 IN A CAR?

craigdrummond (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 9th February 2003, 17:47

i want to be able to buy the 7.2 inch STN Colour Monitor by joytech for my ps2 but i have no idea how the screen is powered and how to power my ps2 in my car. Is there a lighter adapter i can use?

Yep - you can buy an inverter which plugs into the lighter socket and converts the 12V DC output to 240V AC.

Maplins sell them, but I think they`re quite expensive.

If it`s like the screen for the PSone, then the power cord comes with it. My son has it for the PSone (had it in the car today), and the lead powers the screen, and the Playstation takes its` power from the screen.

Mark.

Check what it needs, if it does need mains voltage, then maplins is indeed the answer, they are called AC Inverters, and get more expensive as they get more powerfull (ie what load they can power). I picked up a 150W one from maplins a couple of years back for £20, and I have happily run my laptop on it since.

(Just FYI it is a black box with a mains socket on one side, and the other side has a wire that you plug into the cigarette lighter socket.)

Be warned, it makes it very difficult to drive if you do both at the same time. :-)
