PS2 Backups

smevs (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 21st October 2004, 12:19

I`ve obtained a chipped PS2 from a colleague at work with several games. My four year old wants to play but I don`t want him to make a mess of the games like he has with the PS1 ones so thought getting backups for him (originals for me) might be a good solution.

Anybody know where I can get backups for a reasonable price from ?

Aye, and my dogs chewed up my homework.

The best thing(assuming you own the originals) is to rip an iso of your PS2 Disk and then burn it to a DVD. Its best if you have a dual layer burner as some of the games will be bigger than 4.7GB.

Pretty much doubt the honesty of this poster - its just a way of getting around the `backup` argument. If you are wanting what we all assume you want... try a p2p client like eMule or BT. Used to know of a few people who used to make a living out of selling backups - and I could`ve forwarded you onto them - but I won`t do out of principle. Don`t really think it`s right for them to be making money out of someone else`s work.

Oooh we`ve come over all `holier than thou` now have we. Am I to assume then that you don`t have a single piece of copied music on CD or cassette in your house or car, you`ve never `borrowed` a video from a mate, or kept something you`ve taped from the television - it`s all the same.

As a matter of fact if I sample something and find that I like it I would always much prefer to have the original copy with the original packaging. As a semi-pro musician I am all too well aware of the damage that piracy is doing to many industries. I like to keep my cd`sa, dvd`s, games etc in good condition and in order where I know exactly where they are, whereas my `little angel` prefers to leave the booklets on the floor where they get trodden into the carpet, likes to put the last game he used back in the box of the next one he`s playing (and cries when he can`t find it next time) and anything he leaves lying about ends up being partially eaten by my 2 year old daughter !! And of course when you ask him about it "it wasn`t me !".

Give me a break guys and help me out here. I`ve spent a fortune in the past couple of months buying 15 - 20 games for me and him (admittedly some from eBay) and would like to not have to keep buying them again every couple of months because they are unusable !!

Why not consider putting a hard drive into the PS2 and installing your games to that?
I did it for mine and it works a treat. That way you don`t have to keep swapping discs to play different games, just fire it up and select the game from the list.

You would need:
a) An official Sony PS2 adapter (about £18 from Play.com)
b) A standard IDE hard drive - from 40GB to 120GB in size
c) The HDLoader or HDAdvance software (that stays in your PS2)

That way you can keep the DVDs safe and speed up the loading of the PS2 (as well as remaining legal with the games)

Quite the opposite actually. ;)

My original post may have came across the wrong way - I just assumed you wanted to buy backups. Obviously thats fine if you want to do that, but its much easier to download them. :p

Otherwise do what Rassilion said, and get a piece of software (like MagicIso) to rip your games to ISO files. Then just burn them to DVD with Nero. It`s simple once you know how.

Don`t get me started on that. ;) The music companies have brought it on themselves - they`ve almost waged war against the buying public. If they`d embraced new technology when they had the chance, they wouldn`t be in the position they are now. ;)

Damn, I wished I`d known how to do that before I took Outrun2 back to Blockbusters. ;)
