HELP!!! Problems with Steam!!!

I had to reinstall hl2 yesterday because it stopped working all together, and since then i have not been able to update steam, therefore unable to play cs:s or hl2!

Anyone have any ideas? i turned off the firewall, readded it as an exception and cant think of anything else to do

Did you leave steam and only reinstall HL2 ? Perhaps you should try reinstalling both.

i have reinstalled everything, including the folders left afterwards

Does Steam run at all, or just not connect to the Steam servers ? I`d try the www.steampowered.com forums to see if it`s a common problem ?
