Page 1 of Ordered a PSP
Gaming and Consoles Forum
having just ordered a PSP, from Japan, I am now wondering, if i was to buy games now, would it be possible to change the language from Japanese?
Have i been to quick of the gun?
I would wait until next month when the US version launches. Most of the games are only Japanese - also disk play back will be limited to Japan, whilst at least the US playback will be in English.
A friend of mine got one of these shortly after launch in Japan, from lik-sang.com. He paid quite a lot of money. It was supposed to be about £330 inc. delivery (with Ridge Racers) but when it turned up the courier said he couldn`t deliver it unless he paid them another £70!!! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask......
Apparently he hadn`t read the small print. Personally, I`m of the belief that if anything has to be hidden in small writing then generally they are trying to con you. I`d have told him to shove it but there you are.
According to my mate there are no selectable language options in Ridge Racers, and I would imagine that to be the case for most Japanese releases.
Hope you got it MUCH cheaper than he did. Let me know how you get on. Very brave! ;)
i got it on ebay from japan, £172 including postage. It is being sent as a gift so fingers crossed it should be ok
ive decided to wait until the games come out in america though, then get a couple

that wouldn`t Have to be in the small print, i would imagine it was import duty & thats the responsability of the buyer ;) remember anything over about £18 has to pay tax :( so bear that in mind when importing (trust me, been there done that got the t-shirt)

Fair do`s mate. I`ve never imported anything of such a high value (only the odd DVD from DDD House) so I wouldn`t know. He`s a bit of a wally when it comes to impulse purchases so it wouldn`t surprise me at all that what you say is true, and he just hasn`t bothered to read it properly!
I did get to have a go on it when he brought it into work however, and it`s quite funky. Dunno if it`s worth £400 though. I`ve heard when it finally lands on these shores it`s going to be around £130, and that`s nearer the mark.
I`ve fallen out with videogaming though, so I won`t be getting one either way...
I ordered a PSP along with 3 PSP games and a GC game, and got hit with a £79 charge at the door :( , i had to pay or he was taking it back to the head office with him.
I recieved a Nintendo DS with 2 games which got delivered on the 12th December, i thought i had slipped through customs.......i have just got out my bed and there ia a letter from DHL saying i owe £31 for the items, thats 2 months later :o
It puts you off importing......i could go to my local import store and pick it up for not much more and get a 6 month guarantee with it.
I will consider this next time.

Yeah, but it`s their responsibility to get the money before you get the package. So no need to pay this fee...

Do you think the delivery guy made a mistake and should have charged me at the door?
I think i will ignore it, for the moment and wait to see if they chase it up.
I think some delivery companies charge you at a later date if there are any customs charges so if you dont pay it now they could slap you with a late charge and then you will have to pay even more.
As for Japanese games, they are designed for the Japanese market so there would be no need for them to have an English language setting but Ridge Racers is pretty easy to get the hang off even though all the options are in Japanese.
Also, Sony have said that the PSP will not be region locked so like with the Gameboy, if you buy a Japanese console you will still be able to play UK or US games on it but until PSP games are released in other countries we wont know for sure whether or not this is true.
As for the price, most places are offering a UK pre-order for around £180-£200
