Page 1 of Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Cause I bought one today with Mario DS and that Retro games thingy (10 games, to rekindle my arcade days :B ).
What an amazing bit of kit. I`ve seen the PSP in action, and it is beautiful, but it`s not offering anything new IMHO. Which is fine, if you want a portable Playstation then it`s great. I have a PS2 though, and there are no games on that that I`ve ever desired to play on the move.
The first thing to hit me with the DS is that it`s not as big as it looks in the promo images. Second, the speakers are a vast improvement over the SP. The screens are great too. But the touch screen :o Never have I actually laughed at the genious of something so simple. The graphics are pretty great (not a patch on the PSP mind). Using the stylus on Metroid Prime is to me a revolution. It`s like a mouse on a handheld.
Anyway, I was just posting this to see if anyone had bought one upon the UK release. I`ve always been a sucker for Nintendo`s handhelds (never owned a full console though, but do have a nice SNES emulator :p ). I thought the DS would be gimmicky, but it appears that`s far from the truth. People`s comments on this forum (and some reviews) made me buy one, but the greatness of the actual system will make me keep it :D
And how small are those bloody cartridges? ;)

RE: Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
Do you know anywhere where I could get screenshots of the games? Or a video of the games in action? I just want to see the quality of the graphics. I`m very intrigued, as I`ve never had a handheld console before - but I think I may just wait for the PSP.
Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?
RE: Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
www.gamespot.com tend to have lots of streaming videos and pics for all consoles
We played on the warioware touched demo in town and haven`t had so much fun in a shop in ages.
So will guarantee to be buying a ds, prob with a trade-in on one of the two sp`s we have (or maybe even both!!)
RE: Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
I bought one yesterday ( took it back today as mine had a dead pixel - changed no problem)
I think it`s great and fantastic value for money - I really thought they would be about £150 at release so for £99 with a demo game is excellent.
The touch screen is great but you are impressed just when you switch it on and hear the stereo sound.
The PSP is going to be way more expensive ( but more versatile) - I really don`t think you can go wrong with the DS though.
why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive
RE: Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
Loving my DS! Only now I can`t wait for Metroid Hunters, and have just learnt it`s not getting it`s NA release untill August?! >:( It`s listed on Play for the end of the month, but somehow doubt this is correct? Anybody care to shed any light as to when we might get this?
RE: Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
get your games from www.dvdboxoffice.com ther priced £17 --£23 and free postage i got lots of ds games from there and they work fine bcs the ds has no region coding on games;)
RE: Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
So are all games basically controlled with the stylus? I mean, if I`m on the bus for example - will it be difficult to use?
Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?
RE: Did anyone buy a DS this weekend?
Didn`t buy one at the weekend `cause I got one last month ;)
Still fun...amazing how almost-exact the port of Mario 64DS is, from the old Nintendo 64 version....apart from the mini games, the secret room with the "other" characters in it, and the rabbits to access the mini games, it`s almost exact!
Even the "secret" warps etc are still in there! :)
