Coupla` PSP related questions...

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 15th March 2005, 13:10

If I was to buy a US PSP, would I be able to play UK games on it?

Secondly, if I had a US PSP, with a UK game playing on it - would I be able to play WI-FI against someone with a UK PSP? :D

Yes to your first question(though films aren`t region free), no to your second question.

Are you sure about the second point since there are no versions out there apart from the Japanese at the moment. Where did you get this information from?

Arse! Hadn`t thought of that. Just succumbed and bought a Jap import off ebay. Anyone remind me which region Japan is in?

I`m also not sure about your second point. Sony specifically designed the machine (at least as I understood it) so that it was the same around the world and should therefore be able to be used in whichever country it was sold in. A wifi network is the same the world over (pretty much) so I`m really not sure why a US machine wouldn`t be able to "talk" to a UK machine........

I`m not bothered about the films, because I can get the UMD films cheap from DVDSoon.com anyway if so needed. :p

Well I think the games themselves are coded differently depending on the country - so you might find that in trying to play a Jap game against a person with a US game it probably wouldn`t work. But I can`t see why someone with a US and UK PSP wouldn`t work on a wireless network if the games they were playing were both from the same country?

no to sure about that, (apart from the obvious language differences) as most posting regarding region locking are saying it`s only movies that will be locked, ie, a jap game "should" work in an American or European machine, I`d be lying if i said i was 100% sure about that but I`m positive I`ve read it on more than one forum (i`m thinking of importing as the european version has "aparently" got an inferior screen :/ )

Yes the games are region-free.
Probably won`t know for definite until they come out if the wi-fi thing works.

In saying that I mean that when it comes to wanting to play the game Wi-Fi, due to different country coding on the games an owner of a UK version of a game won`t be able to play an owner of a US version of the same game.

So for example, if I had a US version of Ridge Racer I wouldn`t be able to play against Ste with a UK version of Ridge Racer.

So my question is:

If I had a US PSP with a UK version of Ridge Racer, would I be able play against someone with a UK PSP and a UK version of Ridge Racer?

I can`t see that it would be possible....
