dvd games - any good?

darreno (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 6th December 2005, 21:11

This christmas the shops seem to be full of dvd games,
my girlfriend is particularly interested in the bullseye and catchphrase ones, I wouldn`t mind the QI one, but are they any good?
I am a bit cautious because of poor reviews that buzz on the ps2 got, that the questions start repeating themselves very quickly.
Can anyone recommend them or otherwise?

best wishes

I think the quality of the `game` experience depends on your player. I`ve got a copy of Sherlock Holmes, Consulting detective and my old Sammy 709 had a hell of a struggle coping with the constant chapter changes, which is essentially how these DVDs work.

Buzz on the PS2 is a whole different type of game from the DVD games.

Most of these games start repeating quickly.1-1500 questions isn`t enough for many games without repeats (they are fun for a short time though).I`m getting the Family Fortunes one so I`ll let u know what that`s like.U need at least 5000 (like the original Trivial pursuit) to get many good games.

One of the worst board games for that is Cranium which a lot of people rave about. It`s fun for 2 games but then u start getting all the same questions and tasks...boo...oh and most of the millionaire ones do that too.
If u can find the Weakest Link game cheap for the PS2.....it`s fairly entertaining for the family and seems to have a fair few questions.

Whatever happened to the extra boxes of questions you could get for trivial pursuit?

I played 3 rounds of Great pub quiz. On the 3rd round it was repeating questions from last round. Annoying thing is it told you that you got so many right but not which ones and the answers to ones you got wrong you u end up thinking was that question right or wrong.

The bullseye game is good, but only if you play them on a PC. Its virtually impossible to play on a stand alone dvd player as there is an awful delay. Just got the great british pub quiz so will be trying that tonight

I just got the British Pub Quiz.
On my DVD player it repeats the same question 10 times if you select easy and 3 rounds. :/ >:(
"Which James Bond actor starred in the 1997 movie "Dante`s Peak?"
And the audio of the question and answer misses out the first few words.

EDIT: just tried on my PC and it`s the same there..
EDIT.. again...
Played on Christmas Day. Medium level - 3 rounds of 10. In the second round of 10, 5 questions were repeats of the first round. Absolutely shocking.
